Best out there! Met my expectations! Use New Batteries Only! ;D
So when I purchased this product, I was looking for a game to get me through a three month grounding. I ordered one day shipping and it got to my house real fast. I went to snag some batteries from a wii remote and it actual worked fine but soon the board got very glitchy and wouldn't even go as far as reseting succesfully. I flipped out. But i eventually went to get some brand new batteries and it started working again fine. Just from this i could tell it must be an older design. But I would say this is still the best of its kind out there, and heres why. First and foremost: one player with many different dificulties to choose from. and then secondly: when you feel that you cant play up another level, theres excersizes that teach you how to play better, and boy has that done worlds for me. Theres 100 excersizes exactly. So maybe that wasnt much to last me three months of grounding, but it definetaly gave me a headstart into the skills of chess and gave me a great mindset torwards each and everyone of my moves. Finally: I did buy this 99% just for the chess, but when you get tired of playing chess, theres another 7 games you can learn to play if you dont already know how. So maybe this wasnt the most detailed on the actual product specs, but take my word, you wont be dissapointed. <- However you spell that.

got what was advertised
Package game closed, all the pieces were in closed bag, manual and quick start guide easy to read and helpful. This is for my 7-year-old grandson. Pieces are very small, but what you get with portable set. Would like the board spaces to light up like handheld / phone games, would make it much easier for kids.

Too Small
We ended up returning this as the board part was very small as were the pieces. The magnet did not seem very strong.

Extremely underwhelmed
This product speaks volumes to the continual devaluation of the dollar.I own a chess computer that I purchased from Radio Shack 24 years ago (1994) for $49.00. In 24 years of advancement in technology and manufacturing, I would have expected, for $49.99, to get something equal to or better than my 24 year old Radio Shack chess computer. I did not. Not by a long shot. The box is the same size as the Radio Shack box from 24 years ago, but the space is taken up buy an internal cardboard box holding a tiny toy chess board with a crappy LED screen and pieces so small that they are a choking hazard for anyone with small enough hands to play with them. The instruction manual is of course lacking. I was not able to get pass the computer warning me that is was threatening to take "material worth one pawn" and it would not let me make any move, just made a very annoying buzzer noise at any move I tried.I purchased this for my granddaughter who is turning 11. I just recently started playing chess with her then she played some games against the computer on my 24 year old Radio Shack board and told me she wanted one for her birthday. To my surprise there are very few options for 3D chess board chess computers these days. $40-$150 for tiny toys of questionable quality and functionality, or $400 + for a real 3D chess computer. Luckily there were a number of 24 year old Radio Shack chess computers on ebay so I can hand mine down to her and get myself an affordable replacement.

Good computer, very good customer service
Had an issue with the pieces but quickly resolved by customer services, thank you. Set is really quite good for being so inexpensive, plays a pretty good game. I was highly rated a few years ago and now teaching my grandson (7). He was quickly playing by himself.I would like to see a better screen, my grandson did not seem to have an issue but my eyes had a hard time making out the moves. Otherwise suited my purpose of giving my grandson some playing time while I coach some of this move while playing the computer.

Patience
Read the Manual, work with it, you will get there, Chess.Me, I also needed a light to show the display clearly, you may too.I do not keep my apartment lit, I tone it down, I prefer that. So, at local market where I buy FOOD...I found a Lamp for $5, Rectangular (2"x3") allowing Hi,Lo, and a front lite Hi. Now I can see the display without having to turn on lights or turn them up !!!& in addition the Lite is Portable, Battery Powered so it can travel with the Chess Set.So...I bought another to keep around the place in case of Power Failure.AND!!!! I have played Chess with it....It beat me!?!?!??? I gotta get more practice.

Great travel companion
I was looking for something to keep busy on trips when wifi would not be available. This is a good item to carry around. The size is small and portable. The pieces stay in place because of the magnets. I know the basic rules, but would not call myself a chess player. I have not tried it yet, but there are lessons built into this board. It does not come with batteries, so be sure to have some ready. I don't know how good this is for actual chess players, but for someone like me it was perfect. Brought this on a trip and it helped kill a lot of time. When you get bored of chess, there are other pieces that let you play other games. I would recommend for a portable time sink for trips.
