AVOID!!!! Danger! Contaminated Thymol Crystals
Avoid! This products country of origin is India. I don't know if the product delivered was from a distributor or the manufacturer. Their website is bogus! The product was delivered in an inappropriate shipping package, the product inside was contained in a cheap plastic container wrapped in tape and cracked open. Their is "No" labeling "period!" on the container and no accompanying documentation on the manufacturer, product, specs, USA compliance certification etc. The product cannot be validated; my testing of purity in a dissolved state, demonstrated positive organic and Extroparasitic debris floating in the solution. Additional testing identified the manufacturer used unlisted chemicals/additives to reduce into a crystallization state that was not complete; moisture content was significant and not a "dry" product!Bottom line this product will be reported to the usda and Amazon for immediate cease of sale and potential danger to its use!Beware! A lot of these Amazon distributed products are coming from unknown sources without proper certification. Presumably, made in backyard labs; BYER BEWARE!!

Thymol is a natural aromatic (i.e. smelly!) compound derived from the thyme plant. Its traditional use is to mix with other ingredients into a patty to put into a beehive to kill mites. A pound of thymol should last for several years treating a dozen hives, since it is only used a couple of times a year in small quantities. It shouldn't be used during honey flow season. This is the chemical itself and comes with no instructions. People with chemistry training already know about safety data sheets, where to get them, et cetera. But I would think that any reader who's not had chemistry training would want to instead buy one of the premixed commercial mite killer packages which come with excellent instructions.Using mite killers is not the nicest thing to do, since they will also kill some of the bees, but the problem is that mites will kill all the the bees. I have another type of miticide, an oxalic acid fumigator, for primary treatment but wanted to get this as a fallback in case the other fails. I may never use it as some of the more experienced folk in the local beekeepers association are now using powdered sugar, a less toxic and smelly secondary treatment, but I wanted to get it before spring to have on hand just in case. This spring I also ordered a new 3M Safety 142-5303 Safety Half Facepiece Disposable Respirator Assembly. Anyone who ever smells this stuff will know why.
