Home Use, Great Mini Series

I saw this as a Mini-series some time ago. The network used it later instead of creating a documentary for the 50th Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Just the same the story line gave a pretty realistic portrayal of the Hawaiian Territory just before December 7th and the immediate aftermath. I was happy to add it to my DVD Library.

This is a reasonably entertaining film but at many points the plot is nothing short of absurd. Most of the performances are pretty good in my opinion, but instead of being An in-depth portrayal of the point of view of military personnel during the attack on Pearl Harbor, which I would really like to see done as in Band of Brothers, It’s mostly about interpersonal drama and has a VERY soap opera feel to it. Also, I found a few of the situations and relationships to be extremely improbable. For example, A colonel’s estranged wife somehow has had a close relationship with a local whorehouse Madame– for years. I like to know how that is possible or even plausible. How would she ever have the opportunity to meet A whorehouse Madame or develop a relationship like that? Because you know, Colonels wives often hang out at whorehouses… Right? Yeah, probably not. It might work if there was some back explanation about their history, but there isn’t you’re just thrust into this goofy scenario and expected to go with it.All in all though it’s fun to watch but don’t take it too seriously. If I could’ve given at 3 1/2 stars I would but I went with 4.

I’ve seen this movie many many times. It’s an all time favorite. I liked to watch it on Dec 7 or close to that day every year. It’s just what it is, a depiction of Pearl Harbor during one of America’s darkest times. It’s a classic. This version while based on historical events is just a good love story from a time long gone but a time we should never forget. The costuming, staging and life depicted in 1942 was very well done making it a classic version.

This is a fantastic movie. The only down side is the beginning when endless number of jap planes bomber pearl. The director went a little overboard on the number of planes and the time it tookfrom rest of movie. Ive seen 3 versions of the attack by hollywood and actual footage. this is best one except for the actual battle footage .

So thankful this is now available on DVD !My fav portrayal of how the Hawaiian Islands changed (as did the U.S.A.) on the "day that will live in infamy."

Good miniseries just as remembered back in the day.

Good miniseries to watch on a slow weekend.

Found this series on Amazon whilst looking for WWII series/films. The Series reported famous actors who would sell the story by their individual talent. Ordered it straight away and it arrived before time. Presently on the final Part and have enjoyed it immensely. Would recommend it to anyone interested in WWII drama. Great series.
