A good history lesson.
So much is generally known about the battle of Trafalgar and Admiral Nelson's part in it that the story line was not in any way a surprise as far as the battle outcome. That said, Author Pope has managed to add a fictional twist into the battle that gives Capt. Ramage a part in the fray. It was believable and kept Ramage involved despite the actual events. Actual names of most of the real ships was maintained as was Nelson's battle plan.If nothing else, anyone who knew nothing of this last and most famous sea battle under sail will get a history lesson. A good read. JC Yuill

A nice historical novel
Having finished Dewey Lambdin's Alan Lewrie series (or caught up to Lambdin) I've turned back to Pope's Ramage stories. Big shift from the untraditional Lewrie protagonist to to the more conservative and traditional Ramage but this novel makes it easy. The historical detail of Pope is a great and the nice linear run from London to the cannon smoke of Trafalgar is refreshing in comparison to the more politically dramatic stories Pope's given us in the past. While I'm waiting for Lambdin's next book, these last few from Pope are very welcome and pretty darn good.

Another classic by Dudley Pope. This is Trafalgar from a different angle and Pope has a real ability to put us into the scene so that we can imagine what it must have been like on that day in 1805 when Nelson had his greatest victory and tragedy.

This appears to be an accurate telling of the last fleet engagement of naval history. Ramage, as is his want is in the middle of the action. A great look at life in a wooden ship navy and the of the men's lives who served them. Non-stop action and suspense.

Incredible, Ramage, the Calypso, Nelson brought to life!
Incredible, Captain Ramage, the frigate Calypso, Admiral Nelson brought to life! The ship of the line, Victory, and Lord Nelson's unorthodox strategy that defeated the Combined French and Spanish fleets preserving Britain from the ravages of Bonaparte's armies, and lost the naval architect of Britain's salvation, Admiral Nelson.

Another great one in the series
What a great series. I will need to find a new historical action series. It will be tough to find one this good.

Excellent books! After I finished with the Hornblower series (my all time favorite books), I couldn't get enough of the genre. These are a decent followup to Hornblower--just not quite as well done.

Good characters
Everything was in order with delivery, etc, book in good condition.I am a fan of Ramqage stories and enjoyed this one, but his activities at Trafalgar I thought unbelievable and it rather spoiled the story for me. However it is the same bunch of characters and I think this is the strength of the Ramage books.

Ramage good as ever
have read all earlier books from 1970s to 1990, never got this one, Ramage and the Alexander Kent "Bolito" series were for me the best at the time of whose who followed the Hornbrower books, this one did not disappoint

long time reader of Dudley Pope and the final book in my collection. It might not be the most detailed of the historic novelists but a good read. I have read others of this illke such as Alexander Kent and Julian Stockwin. Dudley Pope was probably one of the first authors that I read as a kid and was glad to be reaquanted with him.

Delightful Dudley Pope and Travalgar.
All the Ramage books are a great read. I have learnt so much about 18th century sailing ships and that most fascinating period - Napoleonic.
