Helly-HansenWorkwear Mandal Adjustable Waterproof Jackets for Men - Heavy Duty Comfortable PVC-Coated Protective Rain Coat

Quality / fit less than expected
I ordered the Mandal jacket after deciding I needed a quality rain jacket for running errands, taking walks, fishing, and boating. When it arrived and I tried it on, I realized:(1) It was way too plasticy to wear against the skin. The plastic inside lays against the skin, causing moisture build-up. A definite no-go for warm days.(2) It runs small. If you compare this brand with Carhartt and Grundens Brigg, it's two sizes too small. The Helly Hanson pattern is not designed for wearers with broad shoulders; there's not enough room for movement. This makes the plastic stick to the skin even more. It seems that this jacket is cut similar to my cheapo 10 buck Chinese-made jacket: narrow shoulders, less arm room, and runs small.(3) The Helly Hansen is inferior in every way to the Carhartt Surrey I ordered to compare it to. Grundens also makes a better jacket, if you can get them to send you one that's not got some imperfection.

just what I've been looking for
Been on a look out for a well made, waist length slicker. this coat delivers a thick and good quality one that isn't gigantic. I knew they'd run large so I ordered a small when I typically wear medium coats. Fits perfect for me in the SF cold, maybe not Chicago cold. I can fit many thin layers and a hoody underneath but probably not a big puffy jacket. I'm 5'9", 165lb.

Excellent Fit, Materials and Workmanship
Just got the Helly Hansen raincoat, and wow, it seems great (haven't field tested it yet). But right away you can tell it's going to hold up just fine. I'll be heading to the typhoon in Japan soon - excited!Seams are all double welded for durability. The thing isn't going to tear "at the seams". And any stitching is left for folded material or excess. Pocket openings were both welded and stitched, with oversized flaps for protection. It's great that there's also a nice wide inner flap where the jacket closes too.The material isn't too stiff, still flexible, and doesn't have that plastic smell you usually associate with PVC and the like. The hood isn't oversized but it does curve out to cover the face more. This is good when it rains downward, the hood acts like the brim of a cap, helping keep water away from the face. Buttons are metal with nice plastic backs that easily snap together and stay together.I'm 5'6", slim build (30" waist), and found the small size to fit well with enough room for heavier clothing underneath. The sleeves rested at a good length just above the knuckles (I imagine around the knuckles to wrist for most).

Good classic workwear.
In my opinion this fits as expected. I can wear it over my Barbour or denim jacket or thick sweater. I'm a medium shirt/jacket size in most things chest 38-40. I ordered a large first after reading other reviews to give more room over a jacket but sent it back. It doesn't breath it's a thick work jacket no zips just poppers. In the UK they call this an oil skin. Tough, hardwearing, probably terrible for hiking but great to throw on and charge down the shops in or doing maintenance outside.

Utility Rain Coat
Definitely a work wear coat comparable to a Carhartt style. Based upon coat shown on model and HH brand I expected a more form fitting/tailored fit. Very squared cut beneath the armpits that flares out slightly towards the waist. No frills, thick (very thick), and water tight. At 5'8 160lbs the Med has plenty or room for layering underneath. The sleeves fall just above knuckles and coat fully covers rear end. I contemplated ordering a Small thinking it would fit more like photo representation but I fear that the chest/armpit area will be too tight to allow for necessary layering.

Waterproof to the max
This jacket is the best I’ve found to be outside during pouring rain and not get wet and be able to stay warm.I ordered extra large and 2XX because of all the layering that goes under the jacket in cold climate and no problem at all.I highly recommend this product. The only problem I found that anything you have in the outside pocket, which is not too roomy, is going to get wet but that’s a minor problem.

This jacket is very undersized...order 2 sizes up
These run very small. I actually ordered a size up than I wear from other brands and it was still too small.Unfortunately, in order to return it I cannot simply take it to Kohl's like most Amazon returns but instead I have to rebox it and take it to UPS and pay shipping as well.It does appear to be a very well made rain coat so I guess I will keep it and use it as a gift for someone later rather than pay the shipping.

VERY small for size ordered
I wear a 3X t-shirt. Based on past experience with button/zip front shirts and jackets I ordered the largest raincoat available - 6x. Yep, you guessed it, just a tad bit too tight. I'm giving it 3 stars because it's a high quality rain jacket and will serve its purposed. But wow, what a swing and a miss on the size.

Great waterproof coat
When you get yours, stick it in the tumbler then on a hanger to get the creases out.It is a great waterproof coat, but with that you have to accept 3 things.1, its a little stiff. 2, it can get quite sweaty wearing it, 3 everyone will ask where your boat is.

Ruined by the poppers.
This is a solidly built, extremely waterproof item, ruined by a couple of poor design flaws. I'm a gardener, this is my work waterproof and I'd not buy another. The popper close system on the front is almost impossible to do up while wearing gloves, and fiddly enough without to be a 2 handed job. The poppers are also quite weak, assume this is so they don't rip the jacket but it means when you bend down, the bottom one comes undone, swiftly followed by the rest, so you find yourself spending half the time doing it up. So it's super waterproof but as soon as you move much in it, it's open and I'd you're in gloves you will have to remove them to close it. Over, and over, and over. The pockets are crap, but it's essentially 3 zips away from being a really decent jacket. Shame! The orange is awesome though, super bright.

SIZING
SIZING: The sizing is slightly smaller that the size indication. I generally wear size S. This is a just ever so slightly smaller version of an S. This is a Autumn/Winter jacket, meaning you will wear a warming layer underneath it. Consider a size larger than you normal size is my advise.PRODUCT: This is fisherman style jacket. The colour is vibrant. It is more workwear, but works as urbanwear too. It has no zis, just buttons on double flap.QUALITY: Very well made. Good hood and pockets.

Very pleased with this waterproof working jacket
I work with an outdoor volunteer conservation group, in all weathers, and this jacket is just what I was looking for. Perfectly keeps me dry. I am a woman size 10 and agonised over what size to buy. I finally went with the M, and it is just right, roomy enough to work in but doesn’t swamp me. I think a S would have been too small.

Keeps out the rain!
This jacket is great for very wet days - definitely keeps you dry. The sizes are slightly on the small size but that means that the jacket isn’t too bulky. The only down side is the popper closure front. I’d have much preferred a zip. The bottom poppers keep opening as I use this jacket to work about outside and each time I bend down one or two pop open!
