Hootoo U19-A Night Vision Webcam 12.0MP, Microphone Built In

Terrible quality, and frankly pretty deceptive advertising.
Firstly, it's not "night vision" by any means. It has 6 LEDs on a dimmer switch.Secondly, it's not 12 megapixels. It's 640x480 VGA which the software upconverts VERY POORLY so it can technically be called "12MP" but it is not the same as a 12MP camera on, say, any mobile device or handheld.Thirdly, it says "10x digital zoom" on the product and in all the photos. That's a particularly fanciful description. The camera is PERMANENTLY ZOOMED to about 10x magnification. You can't actually zoom at all with it. You can twist to focus on a different depth of field, but YOU CANNOT ZOOM.Oh, and despite what some users report it is not Mac compatible, which I will point out is only noted on the product page when third-parties are selling it. (I bought it when Amazon had it in stock and that little note was not present.) It'll work for SOME programs, but not all, and any website that asks to use your camera will only detect a built-in iSight, which coincidentally is of STAGGERINGLY BETTER QUALITY even if you can't adjust the angle. On a related note, make sure you check the return policy of whatever seller you pick. Even though I bought mine from Amazon, they fulfilled the order through a third-party seller who does not accept returns on this product, and now I've had to email Amazon support. BUY THROUGH AMAZON, CHECK THE RETURN POLICY FOR THE VENDOR!

decent cheap webcam but no it does not really have night vision
this cam does NOT really have night vision and is not useful unless you are looking for a regular webcam, but it does have lights to turn on and shine on something for regular viewing in the dark. If you are looking for an infrared night vision cam, look elsewhere. Other than a misleading name saying night vision, I would have given it 5 stars.I got this cam specially to watch the mailboxes outside my apartment complex because the postal carriers here where I live are lazy and don't seem to like coming to the door to pick up scheduled pickups like they are paid to do. So... I got this cheap cam, and mounted it in the window. Then I got the PC program "ManyCam" to zoom in on the image before passing it on to a PC broadcasting program "Yawcam" which then is picked up by the Kindle app "tinyCam" on my Kindle Fire. thus turning my kindle fire into a monitor by which I can see when the lazy postal carriers are downstairs at the mailboxes, so that I can take outgoing shipments to them...I cannot really comment on the picture quality for videochat because I am not using it for that, but it is decent quality for watching outdoors, during the daytime only. at night, it just shows black with a couple dots of light. I have the lights on the cam turned off so nobody can easily see I have a cam in my window. I don't use the mic, so can't comment on that, but mine did come with a mic plug. I have the USB plug going thru a 10 ft USB extension cord and I don't see any quality degradation from that. If you mount the base like I did, you can (even accidentally) turn and tilt the cam, so if you want the cam stationary, its a good idea to make the cable stuck in place too. The cam has a focus ring on it, so you can find the right focus. As someone pointed out, this cam is a bit zoomed in, so if you are using it for video conferencing, you might want to set it behind your computer or something so that it is farther away, but if you like just having your face in the picture then this cam is probably good enough clipped to your laptop screen. The cord is only about 3 foot long maybe, but it works with USB extension cords so if you need a longer cord, you can find one on here.

you get what you pay for
It works. 640x480 resolution and it is super zoomed in and not adjustable. Across my desk it can frame my head. Not my head and shoulders, just my head and the wall behind it. I suppose this zoom was intended for skype style chatting, but it makes the cam hard to use for anything else. leds work, but not really dimmable. just on/off. No spring tension in the base muont so it just sits on top of a monitor, doesn't clip on. Fits fine on a standard tripod but the mount nut is not secured well. It's literally just a 1/4 in. hex nut in a molded plastic hex hole on the underside of the camera. nothing holding it in but a tight fit. Mic is cheap, needs aplification, but it works. Overall it was cheap, and is cheaply built, but it works fine for a basic webcam in a pinch.

Good Webcam for the price
My last webcam broke i spent $98 for it and I was in need of a webcam to use for monitoring my room while i am away,I purchased this cam hoping it would be a sufficient room monitoring video cam and to my surprise it does everything I need it to doWith a quick set up about 30 seconds it's plug and play. It monitors my room keeping it safe from thieving roommates. The cam quality is not the top of the line but it's decent for the price.and the built in lights for monitoring at night is a great extra touch. I tried using it as a web cam a few times and it worked nicely, the camera kept me in focus the entire time, t did notice a few frame skips but it was only for a few seconds and then it stooped, giving you a nice clear video. I would recommend this to anyone who needed a low cost webcamPros:works out of the boxEasy to set upclean and clear videostays in focusConsMinor frame skippingMid range video quality

Great quality, low audio!
Really good webcam for it's price. Microphone is extremely quite but if you're good at editing then that's not an issue!
