Great Read and informative
I had seen this author and the book advertised on a TV show. The book was great, very educational and informative. I learned a lot of things at my age that I was never taught in school.

Not a scam at all - but also not a particularly well written pamphlet.
Several reviewers here have called this book a "scam," suggesting that they thought they were buying the real 1619 Project text and complaining that they got this little pamphlet instead. That's not a fair critique; the title makes it clear that it's a book about the 1619 Project; what you'd need to do is pay attention to what you're ordering. This isn't a scam.Having said that, it's not a professional quality book, either in its production or, more importantly, in its writing. While some have said it feels like it was written by a seventh grader, that seems unfair. It seems more like an undergraduate paper written with a reasonably high degree of clarity. The writing is not mature (or even proof-read), but it does provide a summary of some of the key controversies around the 1619 Project. While the book appears to make the odd claim that sometimes stating "wildly erroneous," ahistorical "facts" as if they are true has positive social value (it doesn't, in my view), it is at the same time reasonably fair in its presentation of the arguments both for and against the Project. This is little more than a pamphlet and it does feel like a (fairly good) college paper, but as a quick summary of what the 1619 Project is about and some of the key criticisms against it, it's a valuable resource.

Enjoyable Quick Read
I enjoyed this brief but well written little capsule summary. In about six easily readable discussion discussed this epic work. All the backlash about the subject in its various forms amazes me. I have read both the newspaper insert and the hardcover book. Well worth it! I want to hear from scholars and journalists. I enjoy the essays. We live in a pluralistic society. Let’s share our views not ban truth telling!

1619 Discussion
While I was interested in reading a discussion on the 1619 Project, I found myself distracted by the spelling mistakes and use of the wrong words. A Book that has “University Press” as the first words on the cover needs a better proof reader so that the reader doesn’t wonder about the intent of the author.

The 1619 Project Book should be incorporated into the entire American history curriculum and world h
This book should be fully incorporated in high schools from 8 -12 grade. I seriously recommend it being introduced in middle school as a prerequisite for high school history so there will be a eager and smooth transition . The purity of our history - from our true birth, our blood bath Economic rise to wealth and to the most powerful nation on earth that promotes peace and justice for all despite for that fraction that tries to hold on to old oppressive regime domination.Let's push this curriculum forward with every nerve .

Complete Fiction from beginning to end
This book is fiction. The ships that captured a Portuguese slave ship on the way to deliver slaves to work in Spanish silver mines, a particularly brutal form of slavery, were duly authorized by the Dutch to act as commerce raiders against the Portuguese and were not pirates. The Portuguese bought the Blacks from African tribes, they did not capture them. The Blacks, who could not have supported themselves in the Netherlands were traded in Virginia, which could give them work lacking in England or the Netherlands, for a 5 or 7 year contract after which they were free. They were never slaves, they intermarried with Whites and some became wealthy. Slavery in Virginia would not become common until late in the 17th century. Slavery came first, racism later. Blacks were slaves because Blacks were the ones being sold by Blacks, something that had been occurring long before a White bought a slave as far back as any evidence exists. This entire book is like this.

Unhappy awakening
Oh Lord! I thought I knew about American history and knew about the 1619 Project. I guess I have to read the damn book. Sounds like I have a lot more to learn.
