Janine releases a brand new Bach recording, joined by a hand-picked group of friends all exceptional musicians. This is energizing Bach which is lustrous, new and vital made available in vivid, full studio-quality, sound. Recording the popular E major and A minor concertos alongside the Violin and Oboe Concerto in C minor and two violin sonatas for the first time, Jansen and her ensemble explore these well-known works with a spirit of complete freshness. In the double concerto she is joined by two-time ECHO Award winner RamOn Ortega Quero. Janines ensemble accompaniment on the recording includes her brother, cellist Maarten Jansen, and her father, harpsichordist Jan Jansen. This record follows the unique chamber footprint that characterize many of her bestselling recordings. Janine is a devotee and advocate of chamber music with her own festival in Utrecht, Holland running for over 10 years.Janine has been a top selling artist since her debut recording in 2004 for Decca, and has sold more than 300,000 records. Her most recent album, a Prokofiev disc with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski, went Gold in the Netherlands soon after release last autumn.

Remarks on Bach Concertos by Janine Jansen
The recording has three concerti, including BWV 1060 (with oboe), and two sonatas (3 & 4). This is Bach payed with sensibility and sensitivity to style without pretension to effete "period performance". Younger, enlightened players, have incorporated some of the nuances of "period performance" into their style when they perform 18th century works, which makes this recording another example of music in the hands of a performer who wants to make it sing. Her mastery of the instrument also makes this possible. The small ensemble has been chosen carefully (her father is the harpsichordist) to give it an intimate chamber music feeling, and as a result the recording has a sense of "wholeness" about it, although the harpsichord could have been "brought forward" in the mix, in my opinion. This is a most satisfying rendering of works that are sometimes "over-played". This one will continue to satisfy the discerning listener.

Bach as it's meant to be played.
An exceptionally good record. Ms. Jansen manages to be both technically correct and emotionally expressive. She plays with warmth, balance, clarity of tone, and makes even the most technical passages seem effortless. The supporting ensemble of musicians is equally as good, and the sound of the recording itself is crisp and clear. Even if you're familiar with this music, I think that you'll be very pleased with this new recording. In these days of overhyped pop stars, it's thoroughly refreshing to hear such beautiful music played so well.

Janine Jansen and Friends' Luminous Foray into Bach's Violin Works
The playing on this CD is brilliantly clear and spontaneous; the selection of works gets away from the usual two violin concerti and double concerto. The players respond to each other very sensitively, and avoid treating the music with too much reverence, which sometimes mars performance of J S Bach's work.

A Bach CD to live with
Janine Jansen has moulded the Baroque approach with modern instruments beautifully. It is also quite clear that she is accompanied by friends rather than just other professional artists. They understand each other perfectly, and blend together as one unit. The result is a superlative CD worth 5 stars.
