Good book, way creepy
What can I say? Good book, way creepy. I like how certain elements from it can be found in Broodhollow. By the way, Kris: pls start doing Broodhollow again.

Good mess-with-your-head stuff
Didn't realize there was more than the creepy pasta. The stories are softer, mess-with-your-head rather than jump scare or gore. Nice slow build of creepies.

Creepy? Seriously?
I was only marginally aware of the creepy pasta genre before watching the SYFY series Channel Zero. During the time that show aired, I would occasionally head over to creepypasta.com and browse the stories - not being impressed by any that I read. I watched all 4 seasons of Channel Zero with the first season “Candle Cove” remaining my favorite - even bought the DVD. I purchased this book primarily to see how that original story was presented. I was also hoping based on all the 4-5 star reviews of this book that I would find the genre more appealing this time around. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Outside of the Candle Cove story - which after having seen the show lost it's shock value -only one other story had any appeal: “Opossum Society”. It has a good twist ending, but it was nothing more than a good short story - nothing creepy about it at all. Other than that I found the other stories to be anything but creepy. And as for the story "Selections From A Dream Diary” - it’s cute at best and I hope the author isn’t waiting for a Pulitzer Prize. I think Truman Capote’s quote about Jack Jack Kerouac’s work sums up this book as well: “That's not writing, that's typing.”

The inspiration for SyFy's "Channel Zero" is every bit as chilling as you'd hope
A short collection of short horror stories, but stories which pack a real punch. Candle Cove is the story the recent SyFy series "Channel Zero" is based on, but while the TV adaptation is a sprawling tale of some 8 hours, the original story is a mere handful of pages. Despite that, it is every bit as affecting as its TV translation. The power of Straub's writing is in his ability to conjur vivid images with the sparsest of language. The stories in this collection carry far more weight than their small page count would have you believe. There are touches of MR James in Straub's writing, as horrors unseen approach out of the corner of the eye, cutting the storytellers short and leavng their ultimate fate to the reader's imagination. A superb collection.

Five Stars
Short book. Enjoyable stories for any age that often have zingers for last sentences.
