Love to Dress Up 18" Doll Clothes

It's hard to find 18" doll patterns for the slim 18" dolls like Magic Attic. But this book answers that issue beautifully! After reading reviews from others, one of the complaints is fitting the American Girl doll. Please know that there have been a few manufacturers of those dolls and they can vary in size. Even the manufacturing within that same company, the bodies can vary a little because of the stuffing. I think editor and author should've specified this because it would've saved a lot of grief. It's a great little book. Have not tried the set-in sleeves to know about the sleeve fitting without gathers. That could be a huge issue. But from what I know about it, it's a super cute little wardrobe for the thinner 18" dolls and I'm very glad to have it!

The patterns are clear and easy to follow. I particularly like the wrap around sun dress. You will want to photocopy the pattern pieces, rather than cut them out of the book. That way, the book holds up better, and if you lose a piece, no problem. These patterns are shown in "very girly" prints, but they are good basic ideas and could easily be adapted for more "sporty/outdoorsy" look. I wish it had included a t shirt type top, but perhaps that is another book.....

This book is a great compilation of patterns for 18" dolls. It is easy to follow and well written. I am still working my way through the book and have not done them all. As of yet I have not found any errors. But, I am guessing that if you have a working knowledge of how garments are made you could overcome any errors there might be. I made copies of the patterns so I kept the book intact. I like the fact that you can use scraps of fabric for doll dresses and these patterns lend themselves well to that. Overall a great book if you want to make a variety of doll clothes for summer. I am sure you could alter some of the patterns to accommodate other seasons.

Tracing the pattern pieces from the book is a tolerable task, though it would have been a big improvement to have cut-out pattern pieces. (What I mean is that pattern pages were double-sided, meaning that cutting out a piece would destroy the pieces on the flip side of that page.) Outside of this, these are cute clothes that are fun and easy to create.

Haven’t used it yet, but looks like the patterns will be perfect.

SOOOOO glad that I bought this book! It had some super cute patterns! All of these are spring/summer outfits. I am going to look for the same book, only with the fall/winter patterns! If you are into making doll clothes for the 18" dolls then you will LOVE this book! The patterns are all full size so all you have to do is trace them out!!!UPDATE! After reading the reviews about the patterns NOT fitting, I am scared to waste time and money in doing the clothes! REALLY a huge shame because the clothes ARE just SO cute! I love them, BUT if when I make them they don't fit, then I am out my time and fabric! I am SO disappointed!!!!!!

Great book of patterns for 18" doll, can't wait to get started

This little book is great! The fashions are fun to make and look terrific. Styles are contemprary and sure to please. I found that a few items (the tankini top, the sundress/jacket, for instance, run a little snug on an American Girl doll, so it is advisable to measure your 18" doll carefully before cutting out the pattern. I had to add a 1/4 inch to some patterns. Others which are looser cuts to begin with can be made to the exact pattern fit. Mason's directions are generally clear and easy to follow.

This book fits the bill as I wanted simple, easy to cut and sew patterns for my little neighbour who is making her first attempts at using a sewing machine. She is just 10 years old and could follow the directions, trace off pattern pieces, cut out and sew up the wrap dress without help. The book was perfect for her needs, however, it is far too basic for an adult with more than brand-new-to-sewing skills. Also, some of the patterns lack shaping such as darts, giving the resulting garments an ill fitting look, despite any attempt made to 'fit' it to the doll it is intended for. This is not to put the book or designer down - it would be a very useful addition to the craft and technology shelves in a school library and I will definitely be using it with children in the future. I would recommend it to parents and teachers but feel it only fair to warn the moderately skilled adult intending to make a wardrobe for a young doll owner as a gift - you may be disappointed and should look for something else.

Lovely designs. For most patterns you need a ruler to measure and cut out the simple pieces. I have printed off all the full sized patterns, and made many outfits. Probably a bit difficult for a beginner.

I am a beginner to sewing and I cannot work this book out at all. Have purchased a different one which is much simpler to follow

These were especially good for my grand daughter to attempt on her own. A nice variety of simple patterns that appeals to little girlsand would be adaptable to a variety of interpretations.Some patterns for22 inch doll would be good.
