With electric hook-ups available on so many campsites, power, light and heat at the flick of a switch can be enjoyed by all campers. That power must be delivered safely so Outwell Power mains kits have all been developed with family safety as the clear priority, followed closely by convenience and versatility. Plus, of course, mains power allows electronic equipment to be used without relying on batteries.

A few reasons this is worth the price...
This is a bit pricier than some others but there are some good reasons and some good design here. Lets start...1) Well spaced vertical sockets. Many of these type of extension have the plugs facing along the strip so you effectively lose a socket thanks to moulded plugs and their stiff cables blocking the adjacent socket. Not so here and each plug is easy to attach and detach2) Separate USB. This would ordinarily take up a couple of plugs or cost you a pretty penny for a double 4A USB charger that would still take up one of the sockets, but here you get a couple of high powered USB sockets in addition to the 3 pin ones. Let's face it, we all have things to charge nowadays so these separate USB charger effectively make this as good as a 5 gang extension.3) Cable reel. It's a PITA having to do cable management in a tent and with this you just lay out the length and roll up the excess. Couldn't be neater or simpler. Because the drum is set within the unit, its stable and has a small footprint too. I'd take that over a messy strip extension any day!4) Cable quality. It's super flexible so good for cold weather (we've had no issues) and the ends are well formed to the housing/plug. Totally waterproof of course so use with confidence.5) Easily accessible shielded RCD (or whatever it's called) with clear labelling so you can diagnose issues immediately. Not a lot more to say really, there are badly designed and temperamental RCD's out there but this one is simple and works well. We've tripped it but it's clear when it does and easy to fix.6) Built in light. Saves you yet another plug and the two light levels make this great as a night light if you have kids around or if you had one too many at dinner! This is probably the most used feature for us, behind the USB chargers. They're LED too so stay cool and don't draw much power at all. The high setting is decent enough to light up a small tent but it's a bit directional so we use it more for floor lighting in a large Montana 6P.If you think about all the things you get in one package you can see where the value comes from. Grabbing a couple extra USB chargers, a separate reel and even some lights will set you back this much anyway, and even then you'd need to by an extension with effectively 6 sockets. So whilst the sticker price might seem a bit more than others, the value here is very very good.

Half LEDs died within 4 days of use
Although still more convenient that the usual white blocks, half of the leds had stopped working by the 4th day of use. Knowing Outwell's reputation for returns i haven't even bothered contacting them, which might be a tad unfair for a review, but this is an expensive product from a premium company so i expect more. The usb ports are very convenient and the orientation of the plugs is exactly how you would want them so if you can find it cheap then go for it.

Great for tent camping
We have taken this away with us on 3 camping trips now and it's worked well. The cord has been long enough on each occasion to go from the box to the front of our tent, so 15m in my opinion is all you need, as I was initially concerned as other makes seemed to be longer. The unit works well as the cord is tidy when your not using it and bright yellow so you see it when it's out too. The light on the unit has two options, a single light which lit our tent well and a full beam option that made our tent light up the campsite! The three plugs and 2 USB ports are just right for kettle, toaster and charging phones. I would recommend.

Great bit of kit
I purchased this to use with the family and it meant no additional lights or chargers. Outstanding bit of kit and the drum means the cable was easy to wind up. Only slight gripe is that 25m, rather than 16m, would have been nice as I had to add a 10m extension
