Do you have to take out the inserts before throwing them in the wash?

Yes, please remove the inserts before you wash them. I wash ours on a quick cold wash first, then a normal warm wash with an extra rinse cycle. No fabric softener or dryer sheets because it decreases their absorbancy.

Does these work well with other bamboo inserts? These are quite expensive

These should work with any other bamboo insert but these are diapers and inserts included. It's actually one of the cheaper brands honestly.

Did you have to use the newborn hack for your newborn or did the diaper fit well soon?

I started using these when my son was 12lbs and can't imagine them fitting a baby much smaller very well. I wouldn't use these with a newborn.
