Not in French!
This book is advertised as English and French, but it's English only. I had to return it. Obviously the writer is famous and the stories are good, but if you want to read them in French, do not buy this version!

A gentleman burglar against a british detective, French vs England, Arsene Lupin vs Holmlock Shears
After watching the series on Netflix I gain interest in the story of Arsene Lupin. This book contains four stories where Arsene Lupin the gentleman burglar meets his equal in skills: Holmlock Shears and Wilson doctor (yes, the names were changed by the author) The stories are funny and clever, the main character is a charming trickster, overall, it is a great read.

Starts out strong but loses steam
This classic collection of late-Victorian stories presents a foil for Sherlock Holmes. Lupin, however, is always willing to help the ladies and never willing to forfeit the prize. He turns every situation to his advantage, and has fun taunting the police while doing so. The stories start out strong, but eventually turn into a wishy-washy mess of winning a girl's heart. Low on mystery, high on melodrama.

Meh! Not very compelling or amusing
I was hoping for something on par with Conan Doyle, got something mildly amusing and in some cases mean spirited.

Not product advertised
This is listed as an English and French edition of this book. I'm a French teacher and needed both languages for my class. However, this book is only English, and therefore falsely advertised and NOT what I need or ordered.Be wary when ordering this booking if you're expecting a dual-language edition.

Lupin is clever and fun
I've never been in to Sherlock Holmes, though I do love the board game 221B Baker Street. However, I'm all about a clever villain who can outwit the much-beloved-by-others Holmes. And so far, Lupin isn't disappointing me. (It probably helps that he shares a surname with a beloved HP character).I really enjoyed reading about Arsene Lupin. There were points where some of the stories dragged on too long, but for the most part, these were really fun and well thought-out. I will say the different books within this book didn't always feel like the same main character (Lupin against Holmlock Shears felt VERY different than Lupin in the Eight Strokes of the Clock). But overall, I really enjoyed these mysteries and would absolutely read this again!

Superb French Sherlock Holmes-Alike with a real twist.
Brilliant stories and so very French. It provided me with a great deal of entertaining reading whilst on holiday, and is another book I keep coming back to. A shame there may not be any more. Excellent.

Funny, exciting and great value for money.
Arsene Lupin is Sherlock Holmes but with a razor sharp sense of humour.Contained with the 739 pages are four stories. They are;"Arsene Lupin Versus Holmlock Shears""The Confessions Of Arsene Lupin""The Golden Triangle""The Eight Strokes of the Clock"These wonderful tales are proceeded by a six page introduction by David Stuart Davies.Davies primes the reader perfectly and none more so than with the following exchange, highlighted in the introduction, from "Arsene Lupin Versus Holmlock Shears";'Do you mean you are still a vegetarian?''Yes, more than ever' said Lupin.'From taste? Conviction? Habit?''For reasons of health''And do you never break your rule?''Oh yes...When I go out to dinner, so as not to appear eccentric.'Wonderful stuff at a superb price.
