Nice architect-style lamp with a modest limitation
I bought this lamp to replace a Bulbrite Stryde which was destroyed in a mishap and is no longer available. The Stryde, while imperfect, was a strong performer. This OTUS is similarly styled (a contemporary take on the traditional architect lamp) and also reasonably priced (compared to, say, the gorgeous-but-spendy Artemide Tolomeo).Compared to the Stryde, the OTUS has+ dimmable light output+ touchless on/off control (I could take it or leave it actually, but it's one fewer switch to wear out)+ multiple color temperature settings+ better quality construction (as far as I can tell initially)- more limited agilityIn all, there's a lot to like about this lamp. It seems plenty bright (I don't have output numbers to compare, but the aforementioned Stryde--which seemed "bright enough"--had a 7W LED, compared to OTUS' 10W, and their efficiency is likely comparable). The OTUS appears to have two LED units, one of which is extremely yellow. As in, maybe 2000K yellow. While I prefer my task lighting on the warmer side, this is going too far--I don't think I would use this mode for anything. The other LED is much cooler, perhaps around 4000K. Some would probably prefer this mode, although maximum brightness is only achieved by using both LEDs, for a color temperature of around 3000-3500K. I find the light quality in this mode to be quite pleasing and, needless to say, plenty bright. The one downside that keeps me from loving this lamp is that I wish that the base hinge could lean over more than 22.5 degrees. The Stryde's ability to do so allowed me to direct its light anywhere I needed it over a relatively wide swath of desk--which is, after all, the point of an architect-style lamp in the first place--whereas the OTUS is a bit more limited in this regard. While I can certainly live with this limitation, I suspect I will find myself lamenting the more limited agility from time to time.Overall, though, the OTUS is a welcome addition to my desk. Assuming that it withstands the test of time, I expect it (actually, I bought two) to continue to earn the four stars awarded.

Great Desk Lamp
I needed a good desk lamp and I did not like how hot the older quartz lights get, so I wanted an LED light. This is rated at 10 watts maximum which is plenty for a desk lamp but it has several settings which allows me to set it at any brightness I want. There is no switch on this light, the sensor on top of the light shade senses your hand movement and turns it off and on. The LED light it is safe for children and adults especially when turning it off at night, it doesn't get hot so no worries about touching the light shade. I appreciate that the light on/off sensor is on top of the light rather than on the base. The lights arms have a fairly long reach so I put the base in a place where it is not easily accessible but it frees up more desk space near my computer. It really doesn't matter where the base is because I do not have to turn a switch or touch a sensor on the base. Nice light, both practical and looks great. I know you can get the old quartz desk lamps for half the price but this lamp is nice and I will be using it for years to come and not worried about getting burned by a hot shade. One last note, I received an email before the light arrived from the manufacturer reminding me to tighten the screw that attaches the light to the base when it arrives which was a nice gesture on their part.ย OTUS LED Desk Lamp with Gesture Control (Touchless On/Off Power) - Desktop Reading Light with Eye Protection - 360-Degree Adjustable Design - 12 Dimming Lighting Modes - Black Silver

HOW DID I EVER LIVE WITHOUT THIS
This lamp is a winner. (Customer service was as well. I had a slight problem at first - and returned the lamp - I was sent a replacement faster than a speeding bullet. So I gave it another try and it was great.) Perfect height, lots of adjustment settings to shine it as bright as you'd like and put the spotlight where you need it most. So easy to turn on and off - no struggle to find that elusive knob no more wrestling with an annoying on/off switch. Just wave your hand and on command ... poof. On and off! It's like magic. I need more. Plus I gotta say I liked it so much I bought one for my nephew to take when he heads off for his first year of college in the fall.

Constantly turning itself off for no apparent reason.
I really regret this purchase, especially when considering the price. This was a splurge to replace the lamp on my nightstand. When I received the lamp, it looked elegant and well made. But everywhere I would instinctively touch to adjust the position, there was a sensor that I would accidentally trigger. The base was heavy, but the anti-skid pad was too recessed in the base. So the base would slide around on the nightstand when I would try to adjust the other parts of the lamp. None of the light settings looked very natural. The most natural looking setting was so dim that it had limited practical use. The on/off sensor is at the top of the lamp, so if you're waving your hand around in the dark to try to turn it on, you could knock it over. But the worst part is that it's constantly turning itself off when there is nothing moving near the on/off sensor. It randomly turns itself off while I'm doing a task in another part of the room for no apparent reason--sometimes 3-4 times in only 10 minutes. I highly recommend to avoid this product because it's expensive, poorly designed, and unreliable.

Just is not a perfect match/replacement for a halogen desk lamp
People visiting cannot figure out how to turn it on; half a star off because of usability. Another half star off because of color temperatures. Just is not a perfect match/replacement for a halogen desk lamp. OTUS needs to keep working on their color temperature alignment to eye-friendly incandescent and halogen bulbs that we all used to use.

The Whine/humm is an Issue
I ordered two of these for bed time reading, but both emit a high pitched whine, one more loudly than the other. I believe it related to the infrared switch, as its audible whether the light is on or off. I woke up in the middle of the night to it. I am returning both lights. They are nice looking and reasonbly well made, but that whine is far too irritating. I use a different LED architect light for art work and it makes no noise. It has a touch switch.
