Tough to Adjust
I like the belt. It allows me to assist my wife in walking after her back surgery, and it was large enough to fit around her while wearing her back brace. The buckle adjustment is a it unwieldy, and difficult to adjust on the fly. The first time this happened was when I was helping her with her walking exercise in a secluded paved cul de sac. Once we started walking, she tended to bobble a bit and I had to tighten the belt some. I had a difficult time getting it to adjust after a bit of pressure had tightened it. Maybe with some wear and tear it will loosen a bit. Once I had it adjusted, it worked fine, and instead of trying to take it off her by loosening it, she merely slides it down and off her legs like a piece of clothing. This belt is very heavy duty, and as sturdy as the ones she used in her rehab care. It has been helpful to have it because it allows me to help keep her steady while walking without other assistance.

useful but needs a nylon belt keeper
Useful product for occasional deep lower back pain. Belt is 2 in wide by 58 (!) inches long. Sooner or later you'll probably want to purchase (or make) what's called a nylon belt keeper, which is an extra sliding loop placed on the belt to take up the excess length. Make sure it can accommodate a 2 inch plus wide belt. Amazon has them for around $7 for four.

Just like the hospital!
I bought this for my father. My hubby is a nurse in a hospital and I work in the ER. It's exactly what is used in the hospital to assist a patient with limited mobility to stand up, or get up after a fall. It is important to keep in mind that IF someone falls, you may not want to move them!!! It may not be safe to move them, so if you're able to make a proper assessment of their condition then this is helpful. I have also signed him up with Life Alert as well, which he'd had for one week and had to call them in the middle of the night. They are a God send! As for this gait belt, it is helpful in helping him stand up to get to his walker and to the bathroom and whatnot. if you have anyone with limited mobility this belt is wonderful and a great price!!!

Prevent those falls!
My 97-year old mom never leaves home without this. With it, I have so much better control and have been able to prevent several falls. She still gets around pretty well, except in crowds where she gets disoriented easily.. Our favorite steak place is very busy and it's hard to get to your table without maneuvering around someone. I feel secure that I have enough control that I can keep her pretty steady. She hasn't had a single fall when we have hold of her gait belt.I wish they made these even shorter. My mom is a tiny little thing.

If you have anyone at risk for a fall in your home, this is really worth it's weight in gold. Although it would be good if Prestige had included a manual or directions for use on the package, i was familiar with it when i had to learn to walk again. But recently, it enabled me to get my mom off the floor after a fall. It's also handy in guiding her safely up/down the stairs as she learns to navigate them more safely. It gives me the leverage to pick up someone 50 lbs heavier than me, in a manner that does not cause her pain. i'm going to get another one, just to keep in the car to ensure i have it on hand for that 'sudden moment' that none of us want to revisit - that unexpected fall.

Work well and has a little color too.
It's just industrial strap with a few stripes to pretty it up. My wife was quite ill when I bought it and lost most of her strength. I was able to belt her up and it gave me enough of a purchase on her to help her rise out of the car and into a wheel chair or vise versa. I had never heard of using one of these, but that's what the nursing home uses. Right now she does not need it be it take little space and is rolled up in the glove compartment just in case. There are other product like this out there, this had a little color so I got it for her.

This is a sturdy and somewhat stiff gait belt - which is what I was looking for. It does not "collapse" when you hold it as some of the softer ones do. The only thing that I don't like about this belt is that the buckle tends loosen allow the belt to slip once it has been on for a while and I have to re-tighten intermittently to keep a good hold on my patients. The color shown is a bit brighter than what I received. Mine is a paler pink but I still like. It is a decent gait belt and I would recommend.

Invaluable and a bargain to boot
I use this belt to help my father (who's had a stroke and has mobility problems) - it's similar to the gait belt that his therapists gave him year ago. It's strong, comfortable (within reason) and able to fit around a larger person's size (my father's 200 lbs and about a 45 inch stomach. You will be be grateful you have this belt in emergencies. My father can mostly get up and out of his wheelchair BUT when he's ill, he becomes weak and immobile. Then I really need the belt to help him and it's a lifesaver. Also, I help him exercise at the gym and the belt makes transfers to the machines very easy. WHen he does his short walks for exercise, I can steady him by holding the belt.We bought three: one for the car, one to keep in his backpack and the other for the bedroom. You never know when you'll need this belt; my mother and sisters' are able to use it in when I'm away and it's invaluable.
