Comes with pads in it.
Funny that Amazon put “smell” in the suggested topics…LOL. Yes it has a funky smell but leave it hanging for a day or so and it’s gone. Pockets are great because they all open up and are flapped over so water doesn’t get in. It’s thick and tough material. Best part is the price! This will be used for off-road so I don’t care if I abuse it. Comes with shoulder, knee and back pads installed. True to size? May be a bit smaller than true size, but, I usually get 2XL but the size chart said I should go with an XL with the measurements. It’s a tad tight. But gives my figure some thinner shape…LOL. It’s not that tight but safe to say I won’t be wearing two sweatshirts under it. Has a zip out liner for colder weather. Even though this jacket is thick and stiff, I put it on last night for a food run and drove about 10 miles. Didn’t even notice I was wearing it. Easy movement of my head/neck with no noticeable interference that caught my attention. I got home and was like, oh. Let me take this jacket off. Other jackets I’ve owned and still have, costing up around $400, I know I’m wearing that thing every move I make! Not this one! That’s HUGE! So with the features, price, pockets, zipper for pants, pads, liner, covered front zipper…I’d give it 10 stars if I could. We’ll see how it holds up in wet weather. But I have rain suits as well. I’m impressed so far!

Pretty great jacket, overall
So. I tried a 2XL HWK short waist jacket last year, but had to return it because it was way too tight around my somewhat ample gut (50"), and it was too short at the waist for a 6'1" guy. Didn't bother trying it again in a 3XL...I'm so glad I stumbled on this one this year. I didn't know they existed in a longer style like this, but it really makes all the difference. And after reading other reviews, I went with 2XL again, because folks said these were more true to size than their shorter ones. Indeed it is. And geez - who wants a short waist if they're buying a cool weather riding jacket anyway? This comes down to at about halfway over my back pants pockets when standing, same at the front of course. Actually keeps the air out around the waist. What a concept! The pockets are ample and numerous. The wrist cuffs are, OK, but kinda cheap. Wrap-around Velcro straps like my old jacket had would have been a lot better, and more secure than the way these are done. There's only one thing a truly dislike about this. The neck. It's very uncomfortable trying to have it fully closed up, because the angle at which they seem to think my neck comes out of my body does not match reality, and that Velcro tab that sticks out at the left side of the neck just annoys the crap out of me when I don't have it attached. And I never have it attached, because I'm not a fan of being choked. I also smoke cigarettes when riding, and that tab super duper gets in my way. They really need to redesign that aspect...Then again, I'm not a fan of paying $250-$400 for a damn jacket either, so it is what it is. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it for the price. 4.5 stars I guess, but I rounded up.

Honest review
Bought this after looking for a riding outfit online for a few days. This is as honest as I can be.I wore this to work for the first time a few days ago as it was cooler in the morning than I thought (64 degrees). Problem was I left my larger backpack at home as it was going to be warmer in the afternoon & I was going to pack jacket in there. So, I wore it home from work also. It was 84 degrees and 54% humidity. With the inner liner removed and 3 vents open, I didn’t get overheated. I always get warm before others, so I guess you could say I’m hot natured. While I did get warm while I stopped for gas, the sweat that did begin to form quickly dried up and I cooled back down within a couple minutes. With the 3 airflow zippers unzipped to allow airflow, I felt a little like a balloon, but they do work.Overall, it’s not bad for the price. Hopefully I never have to see how the pads actually do their job at protecting me.

Great jacket
Value for money. Size down one size as they are a large fit. Seems well made and is comfortable to wear. Have not worn in rain yet so can’t comment on this. Zip out liner is easy to remove. Good for warmer climate and light colour helps in the sun.

Excellent
I purchased my 1st one of these jackets a few years ago when HWK was just getting started. I now have 3 of them for myself & have purchased others for my wife & son. These are really top-quality jackets at a great price. Adequate length sleeves for riding, gussetted shoulders for comfort, plenty of zipped-vents, excellent waterproofing, Cordura fabric, zip-out, quilted liner... The only thing I would improve on is a velcro, fold-over flap that goes across your throat. This flaps in the wind if you don't have it fastened down. HWK should add a square of velcro where you could anchor this flap down if you don't have the jacket zipped up all the way.
