I am giving this journal five stars because I love the journal. It is made well and with high-quality material. However, the pen is defective; but, I was able to take it apart and assemble it correctly. now it works; and it is a nice pen, that feels good in the hand and wrights smoothly. Whoever assembled the pen, assembled it incorrectly.

Love the sueded cover, love the little leather closing tab, and I do like the pen...except it won't retract. The button at the top of the pen does not engage the spring anymore, and it's perpetually open. The way the pen writes is great, and it's ballpoint (it hasn't dried out yet), so I just keep it with my journal so I don't mark myself up with it.

I love this, I use it to store my passwords in for various sites, so it goes with me everywhere. I bought extra pages and little tabs so it works perfect
