FPL #3-45-S Sliding Glass Door Replacement Mortise Lock with Adapter Plate, 4-5/8” Screw Holes, 45 Degree Keyway- YZD Plating

This product arrived with no instructions which is unfortunate. I almost returned it before I realized it has a hook adjustment that made it fit my door perfectly. First, if you are replacing an existing lock, I recommend taking a photo of your existing lock set up before you remove it and at each stage of removal so you remember if your existing hook is configured up or down, which screw holes your lock corresponds to, etc. Secondly, once I installed the lock, the hook did not extend far enough to catch the recess in my door jamb. How far the hook protrudes is adjustable by turning the flathead screw immediately above the hook. You want to adjust the hook just far enough to catch the recess in the door jamb so the door closes tightly.

The latch on my brand new sliding door failed in less than 2 years. This replacement seems to be of a better quality, with a more forceful engagement. I was able to use the existing strike plate. The only downside is this item shipped with flathead screws that were very short. My original latch used longer panhead bolts. I might get some longer bolts to replace those with so I’m not putting stress on the vinyl.

I have three of the sliding glass patio doors and all of the original locks have failed because of a little spring that breaks. Too bad I couldn't just get the springs but the door manufacturer for this sliding glass/plastic door for Lowes is very secretive and there is no way to contact them for the 10 cent spring to replace the ones they install in the doors. So I had to pay $50.00 for replacement locks when I should have been able to get the springs for less than $1.00 and repair them. These look almost exactly like the original that came with the door - sure hope the spring lasts longer than the original that came with the door. Since I hardly ever read the simplistic directions I managed to drop the old one inside the door. If I had put a screw driver in the hole BELOW the lock it would not have fallen inside the door. But a magnet fished it out for me. Finally the lock fit just fine and was easy to install. The only adjustment was I had to raise the metal piece on the door jamb about 3/16 inch so the lock would grab. I like em.
