By Paraic McNeela that produces a rich, deep tone and is not as intrusive when playing in sessions. These bodhráns are strongly recommend for intermediate players that don't want to take over the show. Instead it produces a beautiful soft tone that can't but sound great and bring the session together. This, four and a half inch, handcrafted rim has an added layer of wood to provide extra strength while tuning and a T-bar and a cut-out for even more playing comfort. Paraic's trademark tuning system, which has evolved enormously in the past fifteen years, provides unbeatable tone control (pardon the pun) and flexible volume, making it perfect for every situation. With it's beautifully finished signature black frame and the hand-cured, carefully treated goat skin, this is a bodhrán made for life. This Bodhrán comes taped around the edges for a deeper effect, if required. Supplied with the iconic hardwood bulbus beater and allen key

If You Need a Professional Bodhrán, Look No Further
This bodhrán is SICK!I've been playing bodhrán for only 6 months and needed/wanted something better than a 14" shallow non-tuneable brought over from Dublin. This drum is nice and deep sounding. The tunability is great and easy --you can get a very wide range of pitch from high and peppy to low and grave. The skin is beautiful. It is easy to modify tone and is breaking in nicely (do not judge until it is played for a few hundred hours, it takes time to build the character). I put a paint pen to it and sanded off the excess. Do not use acrylics...they sit on the surface and did not sink in. The design turned out great, see photo. It comes with a pretty generic tipper, I would have preferred an option with the tipper (I'd like a brush or a longer one). It is a good tipper regardless. I expected more volume but maybe that's on me because I'm a beginner. Craftsmanship is very good and the finish is beautiful. The vendor needs to change the picture, this drum has the brown natural wood finish (there may be a stain on the drum I'm not sure). All in all I plan on keeping this drum for at least 5 years or so and either let it go, reskin it if needed, or something else. I have no doubt that this drum will last as long as you want it to (granted it is taken care of and not exposed to harsh conditions or crushed).Long live the bodhrán, this is not just a drum, it's a work of art. I can't wait to mic this thing and start tearing up the stage.

but I hope to improve to match the excellent quality of the drum
As a beginner, this is more bodhran than I need, but I hope to improve to match the excellent quality of the drum. It is a thrill to get an authentic instrument from Dublin. I started out learning to play on an 8 inch kids drum that I bought in Blarney. I definitely wanted a tunable drum because of the drastic humidity changes where I live. One negative is the carrying bag: the inside plastic edge nicked up the tape on the bodhran. So I don't use the bag anymore.

The drum plays and sounds good. The initial drum I received had a natural flaw acorss the centre of the skin which created a couple of dull spots. The finish on the wood was very good. The replacement drum had a flawless skin, but the wood finish is disappointing. From my experience there appears to be a problem with quality control. The beater supplied is fine, but I have ordered a better case. The supplier offered a full refund or £10 discount. I kept the drum, despite the poor finish.
