Unbelievably effective!
I was surprised at how lightweight it was, and so easy to use. There are two filters, the main filter with large ribs that slots onto lid. A section filter is made of cloth, fitting over the first. The suction is really impressive. We have a log fire, and now there's no need to clean out the ah tray or the inner chamber. Really spotless! My advice would be to remove the larger, harder pieces of cinder by hand. I would have liked a brush on the end, (this only has a straight cut tube). It's essential that both filters are cleaned after every time you use it, common sense given the really fine dust.I would not have said that this is little, or no, noise. It's like an industrial cleaner, which it has to be to get a spotless finish.Would I buy one of these again? Absolutely!

Excellent bit of kit
Have had this for over a year now and use it daily in the winter months to clear out the ash from our woodburner. I scrape most of the ash into the ash tray and empty before using the hoover as that way it doesn’t fill up so quickly or clog the filter as much, which means I only have to clean it out once a month or so. The filter is easily separated and like all similar filters, it can be a messy job to clean - I usually wait for a windy day so the dust and debris blows away from me! It’s lighter than my previous ash hoover and although it’s got a less powerful motor I don’t notice any less sucking power. Good value in my opinion

Great ash vac, with a couple of niggles...
As far as cheap and cheerful ash vacuums go, this is a decent machine. It's light, power cord is a reasonable length and it is very easy to use.The suction is good initially, I cleaned out the whole fireplace in a couple of minutes. However it does require that the filter be cleaned every single use in order to maintain most of the suction. This is quite a dirty, fiddly job best done outside. Maybe elasticating the filter cover rather than making it a tie on would be a better solution, and it's for this reason I deducted a star.On the whole, if you want a decent enough wee machine to finish off the fireplace/stove/burner after you manually removed most of the ash, then this is good enough at the price point.

the hoover is great to use. update
The media could not be loaded. I now have used it twice and am very happy as as it has stopped all the dust escaping from my fire pan, I struggle to bend with a bad hip, The hoover is easy to use and very light to handle, as other reviews say you will need a small extension cable depending on your property plug positions,, I do suggest regular cleaning of the filter, with a stiff hand brush, and to this end it was easy to clean the filter, you may or may not need a dust mask, depending on your views.I also ordered a spare filter at the time of purchase as a back up as I am unsure yet on the filters life spa,I will update the review in a month or so.UPDATE>> I now have used quiet often, it has made the job a lot easier, I now clean remove the large filter often using a small paint brush to remove the dust in the filter after the filter has has been tapped off using the edge of my soft brush as of yet I have not replaced the original filter because my cleaning seems to work well. very happy with it use.

Does exactly what it says it will do!
Used this specialist vacuum to clean out the wood ashes from the woodburning stove. Carefully picked out the remaining little lumps from 3 burning sessions first to avoid any potential blockages, and then whizzed up the ash/dust. Little vacuum picked it all up in a trice! Emptied what was a very small amount of dust/ashes out of the vacuum, and used the vacuum to clean off the filter. Followed instructions to the letter and itt all worked perfectly! Engineer husband (and to be fair, the one who did the work) very impressed by ease and speed of usage. Just hoping that some of the other experiences reported here - that the vacuum can fail after a handful of usages - do not materialise.

Handy size
The cord is way to short, there is no flat nozzle to get under the grate on log burner and the filter clogs up very quickly needing to clean all the time. Sorry wouldn’t recommend buying

Great for Pellet Boilers
My elderly mum has a wood pellet boiler which needs cleaning out once a week. We bought her this vacuum so that she didn't have to do it by hand with a dustpan and brush. It's brilliant! Small enough to fit in the sideboard beside the fire, light enough for an 83 year old lady to use with ease, and easy to empty and clean. The only slight issue is that the lead is rather short, being only just long enough to plug in without having to use an extension lead. Other than that, this is a great product.
