Very prompt
The book arrived early (always a +), in great condition. The book itself was more of a history lesson than anything. Many of the topics the author touched on, I had already learned in class. Some of the information was helpful, but I would have preferred a more uniformed approach. A lot of background information though as well as reiteration on what I learned in the past.

History and Theory
This books is deceiving. Although the title and author lead the reader to believe the adventure is going to include theory, experiences, studies, and experiments in leadership, the truth is that there is a bonus history lesson included. The author weaves a beautiful narrative of Western civilization and the leaders responsible. From Napoleon to FDR, Burns explains the difference between leaders and dictators, transforming leaders and transactional leaders, and transformative leaders with changed followers. This is the seminal work on transformational leadership for all the right reasons.

Boring but valuable !!!!! Are leaders born or made? Good reference to have on hand

Transforming Leadership
With not a lot of political background but a love for reading leadership, I thought this book was excellent. I came away from the book understanding political leadership and the dynamics that are at play. I was really inspired by the call to creative leadership but more so reading the development of the American documents and the leadership that went into it. Great foundational book for political leadership.

Disorganized, terrible thesis, good references to history
Usually I am a pretty fast reader, however it has taken me over an hour to read just 60 pages which is incredibly slow for me. This has become a slow read because this book does very little talking but more of writing about history then adding "Transactional Leader or Transformational Leader" at the end.If you read the book you will notice he has about 60 pages of references, thats because he references stories from throughout history and adds in his tag line. Quite honestly I have no idea what he tries to get at throughout the chapters. I feel like im reading random bits of history which is a good refresher after having been out of college for a year and a half. It is a difficult read in that it is disorganized not that the language or analogies are a difficult subject to comprehend. I am currently reading this with about 30 other people and 100% say that this is the most boring, dry book ever. You know what if you dont believe after the other 3 reviews you see, just buy it. What do I care youre a random person on the internet, but guaranteed you will be poking your eyes out after 10 pages. This guy is making money off of taking random paragraphs out of a history book and randomly selecting a person to talk about within that timeframe. The other 3 reviewers must either have no life, or be one of those people who somehow sees the invisible metaphors that authors always write about but normal people can never see.

Gave it as a gift to a graduating senior
Hopefully it will inspire him to do great things! Our high school social studies department chooses our best social studies student each year in the spring, and presents a book as our award. In this case, our senior was going off to attend Burns' alma mater, so it seemed apropo.

Nach seinem Standardwerk ein weiteres sehr gutes Buch von James MacGregor Burns. Sehr erstaunlich was dieser Mann noch im hohen Alter vollbringt
