Ticonderoga Envirostik Wood-Cased Pencils, #2 HB Soft, Natural, 12 Count

If I'm buying pencils, they have to be Ticonderoga. The best graphite for smooth writing, the best texture for the wood body of the pencil, and an eraser that *actually* erases. Could I find cheaper pencils? Sure. But the price is absolutely worth the quality of products.

Nothing beats this pencil for me. I know it's ridiculous that I'm rating a pencil, but when you have a little one in school that uses them all the time, you want it to work. My daughter gets distracted by the tiniest of things. If there's a design "wrap" around the pencil, she'll amuse herself by picking it for 20 minutes. There's no paint or wrap on these, just the bare wood. Also, many other pencils tend to have erasers where the color comes off, leaving streaks across the paper. Or they're so hard and dry, that they rip the paper when erasing. These erasers erase CLEAN, and they're soft enough for little ones to use with very little pressure. The lead is nice and soft too, so, writing comes out visible, even if they're not pressing hard enough. When they're learning to write, they're learning to hold the pencil, too. So, their hands may not be strong enough to grip and press sufficiently, at the same time. Another perk, is that my battery sharpener sharpens these beautifully. No tips breaking, no uneven sharpening, no wrap getting stuck in the blades... NO STRESS. So, there's my super-long obsessive explanation as to why I refuse to buy any other pencil on the market. Ticonderoga EnviroStik pencils are made with premium wood from responsibly managed forests. They work just like regular pencils. They’re the common #2 lead (actually graphite). The #2 on this pencil isn’t too bad and doesn’t smudge much which I find surprising. They sharpen quite well in either an electric or a manual sharpener. I have an excellent manual sharpener (Yikes! Brand). It’s old, but it works even better than my mom’s electric sharpener. As I use cap erasers, I don’t use the pencil erasers much – but I have used this one and it erased clean. Seems solid. Like most of their “designer pencils”, I have a problem with the lack of lead selection. I prefer #3 lead since I don’t need them for school or work. When I do use them for writing or making notes, the #3 lead works better for me. That’s the only thing I would change is the availability of the lead for the designs. These are environmentally friendly, and the cost is on part with the other designer pencils from Ticonderoga.

These are usually the go to pencils for school and home. We all like the texture of natural wood. Having some shape also helps them from rolling off the desk.

I'm so glad I bought these. I'll be buying more. The natural wood looks elegant and they really feel nice to write with. They sharpen nicely with no breakage or splintering or bits of lead falling out like cheap pencils. Best of all they write like a dream. The graphite is smooth and goes on the paper nice and dark. It's hard to find basic, every day items that are well made. I just hope they keep making these and never change their design because these are great!
