Playing Mona Lisa [DVD]

Funny, but not for the kids
My wife and I found this movie because it turns out a neighbor wrote it. We bought it and loved it. We think it is funny and entertaining. This is one of the few movies that as soon as it was over, I wanted to watch it again. Some of the reviews say that this is not how people in their 20s act. I'm sure some wouldn't; they might be a little more level-headed and serious. Then it wouldn't be a comedy. It is a movie about a talented young woman getting through a difficult time in her life and how she handles it. She gets advice from many (good and bad). She meets new people (good and bad). And in the end, she learns to rely on herself for strength and not let the outside struggles define her.No one was so outrageous or stereotypical that we could not believe their actions or reactions. We really enjoyed her family tremendously. I wish that Marlo Thomas and Elliot Gould could have been my parents. I might not have grown up any better adjusted, but it might have been funnier. They felt so real to us. And the wedding rehearsal dinner at her parents' house is priceless. If they make a sequel, we will be right there with her, hoping that the smile behind Mona Lisa is genuine.By the way, Alicia Witt does her own piano work in here. She is amazing.

Well worth watching
Actually, should be considered 2 movies in 1. One story revolves around leaving college, and then what - Claire (Witt) makes this passage as difficult as possible while she searches for what/who she really is, while going through the trauma of a breakup and a new relationship. The second story is about Claire's family - rather weird in their own way. Played well by Marlo Thomas and Elliott Gould. I enjoyed it all the way through. I'm still wondering if Alicia Witt is really that good a pianist? I watched the movie after hearing her interview on NPR, where she suggested that she was really playing. Wow! I know she's singing and playing in clubs - she should bring some more of that talent out into the open.

Good Alicia Will vehicle
If you're an Alicia Witt fan, this is a must. Her performances on the piano are awesome! "And her acting ain't bad either". Oh, by the way, the story lime is a good one, too/

This is about the social life that tries to say YES at the wrong time
I like the star and a piano has been helping me in my old age keep learning how songs like Who By Fire? by Leonard Cohen mean more if all the lines are like Mona Lisa trapped in realms of love with the devil worshipers who take rock and roll to New York City. I also saw Alicia Witt in Bongwater, so this is probably mixing up the plot of two movies that had an earthquake in one and a fire in the other.

I got the last VHS tape
I play the piano and I bought this because i saw the You-tube performance of Alicia Witt playing this complicated piece, talking over it, stopping and immediately picking up where she left off is quite a Talent!!!! I have so much more admiration of hermaybe not so much as an actress but as a gifted musician. WOW!. And of course AS ALWAYS AMAZON delivered my Prime buy very quickly and it is a new product....It is the last VHS tho it does not come in DVD and I believe they may not be manufacturing it anymore......so Lucky me.

Playing Mona Lisa Review
I saw this movie a few years ago on one of my cable channels while I was lounging around my home. It has one of my favorite actresses in it, Alicia Witt, and she's actually playing the piano, which is has studied for years, in the movie. It's real quirky and interesting and funny to watch when you're in the mood to just watch movies and feel better about yourself.

Another Great Movie
This is one of those movies you see advertised before the movie you just rented! But it is worth watching! This movie makes you laugh and you can relate to it! A great storyline that can be enjoyed by families (of adolesants) and college kids in their dorms!! Great movie!! Hands down worth your time money and the effort it takes to point and click BUY!

Not Enough Fierstein!!
I watched this movie hoping for scene-stealing moments from one of my FAVORITE actors, Harvey Fierstein. I was utterly disappointed to find out he was barely in this movie. It focused mainly on Alica Witt's character, played not so brilliantly by such a talented actress. She does, however, get a chance to show off her classically trained piano skills. This was just an O.K. movie. Nothing I would really recommend. Marlo Thomas and Elliott Gould make an adorable couple as Witt's parents. And Harvey Fierstein is still one of my FAVORITE actors! He's like a big teddy bear I just want to hug every time I see him!
