Death and the King's Horseman

The book has a good background story and how how the writer was inspired to write the play. The book also explains the writer's life story, educational, professional, and political background. The play is vibrant, shows a clash of two worlds, and where children with both an African heritage and European education are caught up. The book has clear themes and the main one being corruption. The protagonist goes through various levels in society: from being admired by all until his inevitable demise.

Death and the King's Horseman fue escrita por Wole Soyinka. En ella, se centra en la visión contrapuesta entre la cultura occidental y la africana, siendo la primera demasiado invasivaal intentar interferir para modificar los ritos y costumbres de la segunda. Los Pilkings, invadieron Nigeria de donde era originaria la tribu Yoruba. El jinete del rey debe cumplir la tradición y suicidarse después de la muerte del rey pero una serie de circunstancias posteriores enrevesarán todo al oponerse los occidentales a este suicidio disfrazado de tradición. Recomiendo esta obra dramática de tapa blanda que leí hace tiempo pero no tenía en mi biblioteca personal. Llegó antes de tiempo y en excelentes condiciones.
