Yes in small amounts I’ve used it to dye soap and it turns out lovely

Not sure, I usually heat it in oil or other liquid in sauce or in rice. I don't cook it long so I would not think it must be boiled. I think it just doesn't taste good raw/sprinkled directly onto food as salt is. I did not pay attention to the instructions, and tasted a very tiny bit: not much taste just a powdery feel. It is used mostly for its color.
