The Circus Ship

We have owned this book for a long time. I now buy it for all the baby showers that ask you to bring a book. Even my 5th and 3rd grader still enjoy searching for the hidden animals when Mr. Paine comes looking.

We bought it 3 weeks ago and have read it every night since. Currently it is my 2-yr-old’s favorite book. There’s a fun search and find aspect to it. Highly recommend.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I couldn't be more happy with the purchase! I purchased two, one for each of my two grandchildren. My granddaughter loves it! The story is based on a true event with some less savory details changed for a more happier ending. I found the illustrations top-notch and the poetic verse logical and entertaining. My granddaughter and grandson are both 2.5 years old (12 days apart, with my grandson the oldest), but this story still captivated them, especially when the animals had to disguise themselves while out and about in town. It makes a fun activity to try and find all of the animals. I know this book will grow with my grandchildren and will most like become a favored read. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a favorite for my whole family. The illustrations are so cute, and the rhyming is fluid and not contrived. This book has lead me to other Chris Van Dusen books and I have loved all of them! Still, this book is our favorite!

My daughter got The Circus Ship when she was six and still loves it years later. It is rhyming so very fun to read aloud, and there is also a part where you have to spot the hidden animals and count them. We have gifted it many times since then. Perfect for both boys and girls.

One of my granddaughter’s favorite books!

I love Chris van Dusen's illustrations. I am an artist myself and i so appreciate a well illustrated child's book. I grew up with some really special, old and beautifully illustrated books myself and I would spend hours looking at the pictures. Van Dusen doesn't fail to include special details and lots of depth to his work. I like his rhymes and flow of his books, this one is no exception. Though it isn't about Mr. Magee, my children and I really loved the circus ship because of his special attention to every inch of a page and his colorful arrangements. I have 7 of the books he has illustrated, six he also wrote. I am an addict. I would love some of his original artwork, it's so fanciful and appealing.I started with "a camping spree with Mr. Magee." When I was 20, I bought it thinking I would one day have kids...which I did, and then we got a vintage trailer too. It was truly an inspiration. We read Van Dusen's books on every vacation we take in our trailer or when we fly, our children look forward to story time when we travel thanks to his work. The books are light weight and the Mr. Magee books are very compact, so these make for excellent travel books.R reading these weekly will not get old.The circus ship book, I have read three times, I make sure to not keep the book open to the same page long so I can see new things each time I read. There are a lot of things to see I. This book in particular. It's almost an I spy book. My four year old is just getting to be able to point out all the animals in the final pictures, some are so well disguised.We look forward to more from Van Dusen and applaud his skill both in story telling and illustration.

This is a very clever, cute story. It has everything, good storyline, lovely pictures, a bad guy and a happy ending. Loads of fun to read, and the children enjoy "finding" the creatures who are hiding in plain sight. Thoroughly enjoy reading it again and again.

This is my 3 year old son's absolute favourite book. In fact, we have read it so many times that I can recite almost the whole book from memory! Fabulous illustrations, a great story which rhymes nicely - it's so good that I honestly don't mind reading it as often as we do. My son loves to pretend that he is Mr Payne, searching for his animals and trying to capture his soft toys (and sister!). We have bought copies for various friends and all the feedback has been great. Fabulous, fabulous book!

This is one of my favourite children's books of all time - beautifully and intelligently written with stunning illustrations. This author should be much more popular than he seems to be!

The little one loves this book and reads it time and time again. Really entertaining for children
