Essential Reading
This book is one of a number on this subject that make for essential reading. No-one is free from irrational thinking and many well educated people have poor critical thinking skills. All educational organisations should be teaching these skills at all age ranges. This book is a low cost investment which can reap great critical thinking benefits to the reader.

Really interesting and informative
I read this book as part of an assignment I am writing on Socratic questioning within my specialist subject as I am a FE teacher in a college, currently undertaking my teacher training. I found this book really informative and easy to understand, the book was written in a way that was easy to follow and built up the knowledge and skills as you worked through the book. I read this book as research, but definitely will practice the art if Critical/Socratic thinking in my every day life. Enjoyable read. Thank you.

Enlightening and Informative
I heard so much about Socrates without truly appreciating the extent of his influence, this book attracted and intrigued me. I did not realise but, as this book explains, he was key in the development of critical thinking. The book goes onto explain what critical thinking is, how it began with Socrates and has developed over the years and what it means to be a critical thinker. To become a critical thinker you have to create a mindset that is receptive to critical thinking. He thinks that there are many people who get into a comfort zone or become complacent about the word around them. He encourages us to think about small behaviours and assumptions. Reasoned decisions must be based on evidence and you should not conflate things. You have to examine propositions and the premise of an argument and then test it out and be inquisitive, open minded and systematic. He encourages intellectual empathy, integrity and perseverance. He also emphasis the importance of asking the right questions and the importance of listening. He also deals with false reasoning such as the slippery slope fallacy, circular argument, false dilemmas and appeal to an authority whether that authority is relevant to the argument or not. All in all this is an enlightening and informative book.

It made me see things completely differently.
I learnt a lot that I was previously unaware of. How important critical thinking is, and this book covers the elements that we need to understand. I loved the way Socrates' lesson are blended into our modern world with ease, and how we can still learn from his teachings and way of thinking. I particularly liked chapter 5, The Art of Discernment, which is how to master the art of questioning, and how it shows that if we are not encouraged to question, then we would not of had the human advancements in sciene and technology. Thank you for that. It is clearly a book that needs o be read carefully and thoroughly because we can learn so much from this very important book on enhancing and improving our lives.
