EXCELLENT Support after Foot Injury - Comfortable too!
Shoe provides excellent support for transitioning from orthopedic boot to street shoe – lightweight but very firm sole (and comfortable). The Mesh along the sides keep the shoe from feeling overly restrictive. I usually wear a Size 7, but went up to 7½ after fifth metatarsal break, due to continued light swelling. Although I usually wear a Narrow width, I ordered a Medium to compensate for foot’s swelling. Thankfully, the ankle area has tons of padding so the width was snug enough to prevent slipping up and down. My orthopedist showed me the best way to lace the shoe to keep the shoe strings from becoming loose: 1) Un-lace the shoestring in the last holes near the ankle area, and re-lace the next-to-last hole by going from the OUTSIDE of the shoe to the INSIDE (usually the shoelace will come already laced from inside to outside, so you’ll need to reverse that). 2) Next, use that last hole that curves around toward ankle area (people rarely ever use it when lacing their shoes). Lace that hole from the INSIDE to the OUTSIDE. The Photos below illustrate. It's a simple change but you’ll find by doing this, you’ll have more ankle support, and the shoestrings will rarely ever become loose when walking/running.

Great for planter fasciitis
It is HARD for me to find sneakers that don't hurt my feet bc I have planter fasciitis. I wear Birkenstocks ALL the time, but had to buy a pair of sneakers for my new job. I tried several pair, but they just didn't work. I ended up buying these and putting my Birkenstock inserts into them and it's perfect! My feet don't hurt anymore!

Great nursing shoes
I’m a nurse and have worn these for the past 4 years or so. My podiatrist originally recommended about 3 different pairs of new balance and these were the only ones I would be caught dead in. (I’m 34years old now but still not ready for all tan leather Velcro strapped orthopedics). These really aren’t bad looking and my feet do feel a lot better after wearing them for a 13hr shift. I do add a pair of inserts that the Dr. recommended for arch support but these shoes have proven effective and hold up well. I’m on my 3rd pair now and will keep buying.

Good shoes
Just a little wide but not complaining as I do have wide feet and its nice to have plenty of room. They are very comfortable. I am an overweight nurse and is on my feet for 12+ hours and these are doing the trick for me so far.

New Balance Women's W1540 V2
I usually wear the 990, but I wanted white shoes for summer and the 990 isn't available in white. I agree with another reviewer that the heel feels different. I can't tell if the heel is shorter (from top to bottom), or if it is a bit wider. Either way, I have adjusted the fit with different Thorlo roll top socks and things are fine. I wear these as an everyday shoe and not specifically as an athletic shoe...although I do a lot of walking. My normal shoe size is a 10 narrow, but in New Balance I find that the 11 is a better fit. I have high insteps and arches, with the forefront or toe area a AA and the heel a AAAA. I have developed a neuroma in one foot that sometimes kicks in, but so far I have not had that problem with these shoes.I like these shoes and plan to order again.

like the upper shoe is shallower
This shoe has changed since I purchased my last pair about two years ago. They are not as deep in the footbed, like the upper shoe is shallower. Also, the sole is not as thick, high, and seemingly sturdy and cushioned. I frequently have to adjust my foot in the shoe because my heel slips out - too shallow. They were so good and consistent for a while I would order them online because I knew what I was going to get. -Not anymore. Now I guess I will look for another workout shoe and try them on in a store to make sure I get the fit I want.

Version 2 Not as Supportive as Version 1.
I think the second version is a little disappointing compared to the first version. The top of the shoe feels lower than the original and the materials are a lot lighter. The reason I have this specific model of shoe is for orthopedic reasons and this version does not seem as stable as the previous one.

Forget these shoes...just read my review below!
NB Balance shoes are not as good as they used to be. Forget these shoes. Order the older version 1540's from A Perfect Dealer in NJ. Larry (the owner) ordered some of the original 1540's made just for his company. THANK YOU LARRY!!!! The only bad thing I can say in the quality of the shoes just is not the same. NB is going downhill. But they are still the best option for me I have wide feet and wear a 4E) New Balance Women's W1540 Running Shoe,White/Purple,11 2E US .
