You don't have to, but you can. If you get extra, I would get a different color.

Hi there, the dimensions for the sandbox are 2.5 x 11 x 11 inches. The set comes with 1lb of sand and you can purchase refills to fill to your liking. We hope this helps!

Does this dry if left out?

I don't think so. We have it in a big tote and my toddler leaves the lid off all the time and it's in front of a sunny window.

I want this for my 6 month old for sensory only. I would remove the toys, is that okay?

Kinetic sand contains Dimethicone, which is a silicone compound that is also used in diaper rash creams and is considered minimally toxic. While kinetic sand won't poison a person if they eat it, it does pose a choking hazard, and if large amounts are eaten it can cause constipation. In severe cases, it’s possible for kinetic sand to cause gastrointestinal obstruction.
