A must for your knitting library
This book is a amazing. A lot of work went into organizing so many sweater combinations and sizes. Thumbing through it the first time I thought what did I get my self into, but then the light bulb went off. From figuring your gauge with a swatch to figuring your yardage to make the sweater of your choosing, the concept is genius. If you have only ever knit from a pattern where it may or may not have fit your exact specifications, yarn or gauge, or just played it my ear only to come up short or frustrated, this book is a learning tool for you. Think of it like a Betty Crocker Cook book for knitters. It gives you what you need to hone those sweater making skills. We all knit different, so finally a book that takes our uniqueness with our skill and makes it works.

A workbook to make custom patterns and pullovers.
This is NOT a book full of patterns to knit right away. This is a workbook with charts and graphs to help you design your OWN patterns. The author went to a great deal of effort to imagine every possibility within the narrow scope of the knitted pullover. Different sleeves match with different shoulder treatments. Mix and match those with a multitude of different necklines; then use whatever choice of yarn your heart desires. She has calculated approximately how much yarn of each weight would be used for each of the many options available. Cardigans and other open front options are NOT covered in this book. Perhaps the author will release a second volume that covers that subject in the same detail.

Sweater Bible
This book has everything you need to customize your hand knit sweaters. It's almost overwhelming in it's attention to detail. It tends to be more of a "how-to" manual than a book, the technical details are exhaustive. But don't panic, just take it slow and the author will walk you through every step. It's the last sweater book you'll ever need to buy, (even though we both know, you'll buy more anyway).

Still
There was a LOT of TIME and Patience put into this book. However, the more I looked through this book, the more I dislike its prescribed use for me in particular. You have to get the gauge. Mind me, this one has several to choose from. For me, it's just easier to knit for my gauge. No switching needles or changing that perfect yarn that you've already bought for your next masterpiece. I have learned more about the general shaping on sweaters just by reading her directions. So, in closing, four stars for the energy and time put into this one. For my personal use, two and a half stars.

Another GREAT KNITTING BOOK by Melissa Leapman
Oooo so many choices fir sweater construction and there are charts for all measurements. Obviously there will be some modifications still but this book gives you a base to work on. I really love Ms.Leapmans books as I already own three of them . She’s very clear on her explanations and there are wonderful projects in all of them.

Genius for custom sweaters
This is the book I was hoping existed: interchangeable options. Imagine being able to build a sweater to your specifications. Your size, ease desired, style (sleeve style, neck line, etc.), yarn you want to use, etc. I've bought a couple other sweater books, but the patterns were limited. I'm a fairly new knitter and a stash addict already. Now I know I can create the look I want, as my skills advance. Get this book!

phenomenal!
There are other excellent knitting books with a choose-your-own format, but not with such extensive style options. This is by far the most comprehensive. It includes every type of sleeve cap, sleeve style, neckline and torso shaping in a huge range of sizes and knitting gauges. Neckline treatments include cowls and hoods as well as the standard crew, scoop, turtle neck and a variety of collars. There are also embellishment suggestions with instructions for hems and pockets.

Do you knit flat pieces and seam them together?
I must have missed the bit in the description about flat pieces only. I was disappointed that it was all pieces, nothing about 1 piece construction. Great ideas to incorporate into my circular knitting. ETA - excited to find references to circular knitting, Yowza!! Full marks.
