These books are absolutely fantastic. Very detailed maps, some pleasant notes on things to look out for and best of all, they show you where the pubs are.

These Nicholsons/OS guide books are simply the best. They represent the "Gold Standard" in terms of data scope, accuracy and latency. Every time that I buy another, I wonder why I did not replace the previous edition sooner. You are buying data, which is ephemeral, not paper. Buy these guides and change them frequently, they will significantly enhance your waterways experience.

Bought as a present for my brother who lives on a narrow boat. It's an informative book to read up on these waterways as preparation before sailing your boat there.

We are thinking of taking to the canals, on a wide boat, and thought this canal system might be worth looking into. It's a nice book but the print is so small it's difficult to read and details of the cities shown are impossible to distinguish, Gloucester for instance, and we were born there. I would say the print is about .06" high. I don't understand why publishers do this. I wonder if there is a full sized version obtainable. I'm sure the book contains useful information but the maps are very difficult to follow without a magnifying glass, rendering them completely impractical. I really can't imagine this version being of any use to an actual traveller as a real time navigating tool.

I love having these books around both before and during my canal boating trips. Good for planning, REALLY nice to have on hand to see what is coming up
