desertcart.com: I Like Myself!: A Story About Self-Esteem and Self-Acceptance: 9780152020132: Karen Beaumont, David Catrow: Books Review: โค FUN & ENGAGING BOOK - Perfect mantra for ANY child: value diversity and self-love. - We love this book! My 22 month old enjoys it too! I first saw this at Barnes and Noble and thought it was adorable. I found it cheaper on desertcart, so ordered it. I love that itโs a board book (durable), and the illustrations are great. Iโd describe it as a modern Dr. Seuss combined with a touch of Roy Lichtenstein. Net, the art is unique, interesting and captivating! We are a Caucasian family, and I try to buy our daughter toys and books which represent our diverse world. I donโt want her to only have dolls, books and toys that look like her. I want her to understand the world is diverse, everyone is unique, and thatโs what makes everything and everyone beautiful! The message in this story is truly universal. Boy, girl, black, white, blue... it doesnโt matter what you look like, this book applies to everyone. Everyone is unique, special and should be loved and liked. The storyline is simple enough to keep her interest, but not something I see her outgrowing in a few years. We have used this as a tool to teach her to love herself, and she repeats the title-phrase: โI like myself.โ This MELTS my and her daddyโs heart. Exactly the mantra we want her to have. Thereโs a part in the book where the little girl has crazy hair, and we love that page. Our little one has light blonde, very short, very thin and โfuzzyโ hair. So, she regularly has crazy hair that requires wetting and a quick brush. (So, cute!) Weโve long said to her, โcrazy hair, donโt care!โ She says this all the time when we touch her hair or brush it, and she recites that line on this page. Itโs a fun book in many ways! Highly recommended! Review: Great book - Such a positive message! Bought it for pre-school as a school requirement, would make a great gift too!

Beautiful book and surprisingly a great one for learning first words.
This book is so much fun to read! The artwork is very unique and beautiful and the words just flow like a conversation. And of course the message is amazing and helps to promote self confidence. Even I feel uplifted and more confident from reading it. My toddler loves this book as well! She loves the page that talks about body parts and likes to point to them on herself and mom. It seems like every page has something a kid will love to point out like a ball, a balloon, a bike, a dog, a baby. I didnโt expect this book to be such a great one for promoting language development but it has been for those reasons. I would highly recommend this book to any parent!! Please let me know if you found this review helpful. Thanks!

Cute book with fun pictures
I purchased this for my daughter because I loved the premise of the book when I saw it on Amazon. Too often we hear about issues with bullying and mean kids taunting other children. I want my daughter to know and understand that, no matter what these bullies might say or what others might think, the only person that matters is yourself. The author fills the book with wonderfully drawn pictures of the character, a quirky and eccentric girl (I think...) who loves to play with her dog. She is subject to some bullies who make fun of various aspects of her physical appearance or personality, but no matter what, "I like myself!" The little girl certainly has a vivid imagination, as she starts to envision what she might say if she had tusks or other odd appendages. It concludes nicely. The book does seem to extend a bit longer than necessary with some repetition of themes and topics, but overall, I thought it was creative and well written and enjoyed reading it with my daughter who loves to look at the pictures.

Self-esteem for toddlers and preschoolers!
This book is a gem! I have been teaching early childhood music classes (Kindermusik) for 15 years, and this summer, I discovered this book and began reading it daily! It is always a hit. The children love not only the positive messages, but also the almost Seuss-ian illustrations. This is also a great antiracism book because we can easily identify with its young, black, female protagonist who loves herself no matter what others may think or say. If you want to build a more inclusive classroom, this book is a great place to start. It's also fantastic for building healthy self-esteem and resilience in every child.

Interesting subject matter with all the bullying out there.
I liked that it had many pages and the book was very quality made. Tiny ones can look at the pictures and older ones can read the content. It reads somewhat like a Dr. Seuss book.

Great message about self-esteem but sent in a fun, child
I just love this book and my son does too which is hard for me to believe because it is a little long and advanced for his age (16-17 months). I know he will only like it more as he gets older and understands the message a little better. Itโs a great book to instill self esteem but is sent in a fun way. The book rhymes and also uses child like descriptions of flaws which I think really draws the child in and keeps them interested. This book will have a long shelf life. I can see me reading this to my son for many years to come.

Building self-esteem!
I adore this book. As a preschool educator working with children ages 18months to 5 years old, I want to help the children in my class feel and embody love for themselves. I try to go out of my way each day and make sure each of my friends know that I care about them even when they are having a hard time making good choices, when they are sad, or frustrated and I want them to know that it is normal to be wild and also angry. This book was given to each of my friends for their book exchange from me to them, instead of a present exchange in class for the holidays. Love, love, love this book.

Got this book as a gift for my oldest on her first birthday and since then I have bought it as a gift for every kid in our lives, boy or girl. This is such a fantastic book about liking yourself just the way you are and is a fan favorite in our home. It reads fun, makes kids giggle and sends a wonderful message in a perfect kid-friendly way. If I could give it more stars I would

After it arrived I bought two more for friends' children. Gorgeous book, funny, energizing, wonderful pictures, enjoyable for the adults too, uplifting. What a great theme, encouraging children to love themselves as they are. Also helps fulfill need for more children's books featuring people of colour.
