I installed a water filter for these cartridges in my shower and was so happy to see this refill 4 pack. What great value for money. I love the stages the water filters through before making contact with your skin. Yes, black carbon does come out of the filter during the first use. This is normal. You’re supposed to follow the installation instructions and run the water through both ends of the filter for about 20 seconds before use. You’re even supposed to run water through your water drinking filters before you use them, so it’s a no brainer.The recommended time to change these cartridges is every 6 months, but it is best to change every 2 months if you live in the gulf region.Hair breakage and skin issues are a huge problem here in UAE, so you definitely need something to reduce the harsh effects of the water. I only wish I’d learnt about installing a water filter in my shower upon moving to UAE, rather than finding out about it after my thin, blonde hair became weak and began snapping off over the past 12 months. I was convinced it was from an extremely stressful workplace or my thyroid. It was neither. After some research, I found out the water in UAE was too harsh for hair and skin. I knew it wasn’t for drinking, but never knew it caused skin and hair issues. My husband and I both experienced skin issues eg, body acne, fungal infections, itchy scalp and as my hair is thin, it was snapping off. All are effects from the UAE water. Since installing a water filter, I noticed a significant change in my hair lustre after the first wash. It became softer again and for the first time in 12 months - near to no snapping. Even the water is ‘softer’ coming out of the filter. It feels and smells clean. Very happy with my purchase and highly recommend❣️

Sometimes when I first installed it I’d find the first drops of water are a bit dark or black, it stopped doing that after awhile, not sure if it works or not but in general using these filters have helped my hair

During first use, black color water output. May be this is the carbon fillings getting washed away from inside the filter. Other than that, looks OK..

I opened it after I used it for three months and it’s only active carbon inside!So safe your money and buy cheaper models that only has some layers or only active carbon.It does the job though.
