Does the USB input allow playback of mp4 or avi movies (not just jpegs and mp3 music)?

Yes, provided the signal comes from a digital media player. The TV itself will not play mp4 or avi files.

I purchased this tv/dvd for my RV and the sound isn't very good at all. Anyone have any suggestions as to what sound bar might work for this unit??

Go to big lots and get a cheap speaker.. None of these tv have quality speaker.. I have 4 of them... This solves all problems... I like the little cool type that pops up...
