So much fun! Tons of gold dust for future use

Years ago, on a trip to Tuscany Italy, I purchased a beautiful hand painted Christmas tree ornament. I dropped it while putting away my decorations this year. I was a bit sad about breaking it. I was about to throw the ornament away when I remembered hearing about Kintsugi. This kit worked great and my ornament will be on the tree for many years to come. It looks nice, it’s not perfect but that is kind of the point with Kintsugi… finding beauty in imperfection. Glad I purchased this, it was a fun project!

Smelled terrible! But it had a pretty effect on my broken teacup. I did not have any issues with it drying, as others have reported.

I have a favorite cup, purchased long ago at an "Arts/Craft Fair"; I can't just buy another--it is hand made and has a special handle. Its rim and base are chipped. I was going to throw it away, regretfully. Then I was watching TV and saw this Japanese technique, and went "Bingo"; I looked for it on Amazon and found this. Now I have my cup back. And it was fun to do the repair.

The kit is cute. It comes with a small epoxy container, an adorable spoon, two tiny ceramic bowls, gloves, disposable sticks and mixing bowls, and two bottles of gold powder. Also, two small artist brushes. What I like: Disposable sticks and mixing pots are biodegradable. The epoxy will cancel a portion of that pro, though. Decent amount of gold powder. My epoxy was half empty and seeped through the inner box. All in all a decent way to introduce yourself to the idea of kintsugi. I came across kintsukuroi as a philosophy years ago and always thought it was beautiful. We all have broken pieces. I have some broken pottery that matter enough to fix. I kept their parts for years and just got around to mending them. Probably should have taken advantage of the included bowls for practice but they are too cute to break on purpose. What I learned from mistakes: It says start with small amount because it sets up quick. Start even smaller than you think. Wear clothes that don't matter in case you drip. Be prepared to purchase brushes or just use the sticks. One and done on the brushes.
