Diagrams of chord tones without labels
I was hoping this book would help me figure out chord fingerings on my 6-string bass. I already knew from a previous review that it didn't include actual chord diagrams, but I figured the neck diagrams could be helpful.Unfortunately, to "avoid over-cluttering the diagrams", and fit 8 on a page, the author opted to omit the scale degrees and names of the notes on the diagrams. The book is 663 diagrams of dots on a fretboard (the chord tones), with the roots circled and optional notes hollowed out. Each diagram is titled with the chord name, a list of the which scale degrees are included in the chord, and a staff with those degrees represented in standard notation.Without the ability to see the scale degrees or note names within the patterns though, it makes it really hard to figure out how to properly represent the chord. The author mentions that you can use the book to pick out which notes will "sound good" played over specific chords. This is true. He also mentions that when "playing arpeggios, you would normally play all the notes in the chord in succession." With labeled dots, you could at least pick out a pattern that represents each degree. It's significantly more challenging without the labels.I'll keep the book, and will probably highlight some of the patterns myself.

Thanks so much.

Perfect for the beginner on the six string.
What a wealth of information in a compact book. I can stick this book in my bass case between the strings and the bass body and take it with me for reference anywhere. For any chord being played there is a corresponding diagram. If you are new to bass and started with a six string, like me, this book is a goldmine.

This book does not contain chord diagrams
While the book is titled "A Visual Guide to Chords and Arpeggios for 6-String Bass Guitar" in fact, it has no chord diagrams. The diagrams show you every note in the chord and where they are on the Bass' neck. To play a chord the book tells you to choose among the notes in the chord - well, duh!Since I already know the notes that make up a chord (very basic music theory), and I know the notes on the fretboard, the book is useless.I was expecting chord diagrams that show various voicing for each chord.Very Disappointing.

Less Than Expected
I didn't find the book useful. I think that it was a complete waste. The book is poorly designed and it doesn't provide guidance to how the charts should be approached (finger postioning). I found the book 6 string bassics more adaptable and useful.
