Love this hush puppy mix. I add a tiny bit more water than what it calls for and some fresh diced onion to the mix and stir. Then let it sit for about 10 minutes and don’t mix it after you let it sit. Then when grease is hot slowly add a heaping tablespoon to the pan. I found out that when you let the batter sit and don’t stir, it somehow creates little craters in the batter when you add it to the pan and that makes them cook nicely and you don’t come out with hot hush puppies on the outside and raw dough on the inside. I also froze the dry packets and took out a packet at a time when I needed one.

So Delicious! I missed hush puppies and don’t have the time to make them from scratch. You can’t use this in an air fryer traditional oil is the way to go. If you refrigerate the dough it’s easier to get uniform ball shape.

My wife has used this for year's as the go to batter for fried green tomatoes. She thin slices the tomatoes, batters them in Martha White hushpuppy mix with onion, and fries them in a skillet. They beat any fried green tomato I have ordered in a restaurant, even some establishments that are famous for that item! To be honest, I have never had actual hushpuppies made with this batter. No need to waste it if you have green tomatoes available!!
