I would not recommend this item
I would not recommend this item. The alarm went off so I opened windows and called 911. The police arrived to investigate and then I remembered using nail gel in the same room where this was plugged in. I thought maybe the fumes had caused it to go off. We decided it was a glitch; I fumigated the room, moved this down the hallway, and returned to finish my nails with the door closed. Less than 10 minutes later the alarm was going again, I unplugged it and left it in my car. The next day I brought it back in the house, plugged it in and walked away. I didn't make it down the hall before it was going off again! Too late to return so I removed the batteries and tossed it in the trash ... where it belonged. I may have gotten a set of lemons and this actually works, but I won't be trying it again.

Users Choice
Crazy widowed, probably half psychotic cat lady here whom lives alone in the middle of BFE. LOL This seems to be durable. I thought it a bit misleading in the fact that the digital readout does not actually give a ppm reading unless there is an actual leak that the meter itself considers dangerous. It has a digital voice and will tell you after plugging it in that it will reset in 3 minutes. (It uses those 3 minutes to scan for levels.) It's winter and we are currently in the negative 20-40's. Last week we had a problem with our power grid. Somehow we had just enough power for dim nightlights. I had to unplug the meter because it vocally told me it was resetting over and over. It was fine once full power was restored. I do have an older furnace and can smell gas at first ignition, which is common yet scary for crazy cat ladies living alone in BFE.. I do wish they would have been clearer about the digital readout. More of an apartment type fixture like my carbon monoxide alarm. Would much prefer to know the exact levels at all times instead of a warning when they reach a dangerous level. That is my only complaint. So there is definitely a users choice in purchasing preference.

Proved itself to me
I put this unit near my water heater. Last week, it alerted me of a gas leak. Sure enough, the roof vent was blocked by leaves, combustion was incomplete and the tester detected the gas. After the fix, I had to air the room for a while before the alerts stopped as the detector is sensitive. On a previous occasion, I got an alert. I had been cleaning with a can of compressed air nearby and the tester detected the propellant from the aerosol can (which I tested to make sure several times) . I did not mind, in fact it made me feel assured that it worked.

Great Addition to a Kitchen with an Elderly Cook
This sensor seems to work quite well. However, I believe it also detects vapor other than natural gas. Once dropped a bottle of wine while cooking which shattered on the tile floor. After a while, the alarm went off and my guess is that it was somehow detecting evaporating alcohol? This is just a guess. Otherwise, it has worked perfectly. I also bought one for an elderly neighbor with a touch of dementia who has not fully turned gas off on the stove but enough to extinguish the flame. This plus a smoke detector and a CO detector should be in every home with elderly cooks and a gas stove.

Great Product, Especially For The Price
This thing really works. I used a spray-on carpet cleaner in the garage and the fumes set the alarm some fifteen feet away. The alarm was sufficiently loud and I like the voice announcement.

Works
Pick up gas before humans can smell. Will definitely keep from being harmed from gas leak. Has already worked for me.
