Bright light, average optics
I bought this magnifier because I needed something with a bright light to see details. That's what I got. I use it while looking at objects I found with my metal detector. It is hard to see details when standing in the bright Florida sunlight, so I move to the shade, but the contrast still makes it hard to see. The 2 super bright LEDs on this magnifier even things out so I can see what I just found. The optics are just average. You can see "lines" on the image due to imperfections in the lenses. In my case, this is not a big deal as I just want to identify the object (date on coin, mint mark, etc), but I have to use a higher quality magnifier when I get home to truly study the object's fine details. Also, there is a measuring "grid" or ruler inside the base of the magnifier. I guess this is intended to allow you to measure details on objects (size of image on postage stamp, size of jewelry stones, etc). But, the grid markings are black with no contrasting color to distinguish them from the black plastic, so they are totally invisible. If you need to measure your object, this is not the magnifier for you.The optics are protected by a substantial aluminum housing into which they swing when not in use. This is especially important when using the magnifier in the field as I do.Overall, good for field use, not so good for more detailed work.

No graduations
I bought this one because I needed to get a estimate on some small surface mount electronic parts. It works, but there's no graduations as advertised. So I can see the parts, but can't get a grip on their size. Overall, it's pretty nice, the lights work, good magnification, just no graduations.Edit: Ok, after reading Bob Hunts review, I went back and looked at it. Still couldn't find the graduations, until I used another light, to light the inside of the magnifier, and after looking hard, there they were. Totally worthless, but they're there. The only way to use them, would be to hold the magnifier at a distance, with another light, to light the inside of the magnifier, and with your third hand, move the object so you can see it in the magnifier. I think the graduation printing is white on black, but with no light, you can't see them no matter what, plus, this thing is only a quarter inch from your eyeball, so no light, no focus, no use.Still a good magnifier, I like the light, I don't need the UV. But for 10 bucks, It's Ok if you don't need graduations.
