The Book of Hygge: The Danish Art of Contentment, Comfort, and Connection

The Book of Hygge is a hyggelig read.
This book is small. If you read only the aphorisms—which is tempting—you will find the book deeply silly. If you read all the text, you will find the book repetitive, but informative enough to be worth the purchase price. The best way to read it is to skip the aphorisms, which are often trite and sometimes irrelevant. The photos may seem irrelevant, too, but they are important to the overall feeling of hygge that the book evokes. I think the author intended not just to define hygge, and not just to list examples of it, but to provide the reader with an experience of hygge. For me, she succeeded, though not at first because this 192-page book probably should have been half the length with a lot more pictures and a lot less repetition of what comprises hygge. I had to turn off the professional editor in me in order to open myself to this particular expression of hygge. I will, I think, keep this book; overall, it is a sincere effort to communicate hygge to non-Danes . . . and it is not simply a recipe book in disguise. I appreciated that.

Make your heart happy
Not prescriptive, this book gives more of a nuanced introduction to hygge. It gives general guidance and examples of hygge that are easily achieved.

Was an interesting book, but if the author said Hygge one time, they said it a million!!!!! I'm sorry, it was so annoying for me to keeo reading that word over and over and over. I do love the concept of Hygge and enjoyed learning about it. But I was definitely glad when I finally made it to the end!

This is a wonderful introduction to Hygge
This is a wonderful introduction to Hygge. It has caused me to reevaluate how I look at the moments in my life, even the moments I'm not crazy about and try include more Hygge in them. I recommend this book! It's the perfect winter read with a fire in the fireplace and a good cup of coffee.

My favorite book on hygge
This is a delightful little book, which manages to evoke hygge simply in the reading of it. Unlike some other books which Martha Stewart-ize the subject with recipes and other prescriptions for creating hygge, this book emphasizes the aspect of simplicity, of the hygge in everyday experiences. I highly recommend.

Loved it. Defining Hygge probably does not require 170 something pages. But, every time I sat down with the book, I went to that Hyggelig frame of mind. I gave the book to a friend and ordered another one. Light some candles, get cozy with a cup or glass of something comforting, slow down and be taken away.

Used but good
Book a bit roughed up. I guess you could say it gives it character?

The epitome of minimalism
This book by Louisa Thomsen Brits is the epitome of minimalism. Exploring the concept of hygge in just six chapters (belonging-shelter-comfort-wellbeing-simplicity-observance), it is minimalistic in the structure and the design (but thankfully not in the content).

Beautiful little book
Beautiful little book, beautiful pictures, but the text is either badly translated from Danish (?) or just not my style of writing. I gave up after a few pages, but I am keeping the book because it's beautiful (thus the two stars).

Damaged item, awful condition
I ordered this with great enthusiasm however it was delivered with considerable damage to the hard cover. The replacement then arrived also with damage and colour fade to the cover. Intended for a gift which left me very little time to get something else. I now have to arrange a second trip to the shop as to return.
