Fast access device
I was looking for a docking station but was not really wanting to have to plug in another device and run another electric plug to an outlet. My power strip is full. So I came upon this built-in hot swap unit. It is just what I needed. Looks great, easy install and seems to be built very well. But most important, it works like a charm. I have several sata drives from previous installs with alot of info on them, mainly pictures, and downloads, which I always tried to burn to disk and then tried to keep up with what was on them. Very hard to do with limited writing space on a disk. Impossible really. I end up with dozens of disks and only have a clue as to what is really on them. But I do have them, finding what I need is another matter.Install was like any other cd-rom like device, hook up the power and sata cable in the rear and you are ready to go. Slide in a hard drive and close the door. Requires a firm but easy push to lock the door with a solid click, opens by releasing the catch and at the same time pushing the hard drive out towards you. It will not fall out on you. It has a blue light indicating it is on and a amber light when it is reading or writing info. It also has a lock to secure the device, just don't lose the keys. One other use is so I can put a bunch of movies on a hard drive and just watch them from there. My 500GB HD will hold 100 regular dvd movies. On another drive I have 80GB of pictures and 30 GB of music, can you imagine trying to keep up with those on disk, even a blu-ray disk, you just can not write down all that is on the disk. Now it may be my motherboard or OS but I have limited success at swapping hard drives with the computer on, so I just power down, swap and boot back. Never a problem even with an OS loaded on the extra drive. Boots like it should. One thing, I have a regular case and as I said, it mounts just like a any rom device, 2 screws on each side, but on my other case, that one has the slide in mounts for the rom devices, I had trouble mounting it there because the holes in the hot swap where a bit small for my slides. They could be drilled slightly larger and it would work but I havent done that yet.I would recommend this to anyone wanting a permanent way to swap out and access additional hard drives fast and easy, without having to connect usb and electric lines. Looks great, functions perfect. I have 2 now. Excellent product and one of the best add-on devices I have bought.(Personal Note): Of all computers I have repaired, the one thing people want to keep are their pictures. Please back up all your pictures regularly on disk. You can get everything else back for the most part, do not rely on hard drives to do this. As with ANY hard drive no matter who makes it, it is not a question of "if" it will fail but "when". Burn all your pictures on a disk today...

Exceptional Quality, Great Product, Works Very Well !!!
I received this today and immediately opened my new HP Computer that my wife bought me for Christmas to see if it would work. The front panel is removable and has a 5.25 drive bay designed for a DVD or similar item. My concern was the space behind the face plate being to small and not allowing the face plate to be put back on. I was extremely happy when I found the area allowed the unit to be mounted with no problem. I was as though the front escutcheon had been designed with this unit in mind. The sides are on the KF-1000 are rubber mounts and in an HP computer, you cannot get to the left side to place the screws that hold it in. Improvise is what I do best. 25 years of computer construction did not hurt either. I placed the two screws on the left side bracket into the holes and tightened them. I then pulled the spring clips out about a quarter of an inch so they pushed on the sides of the bracket tightly. I did not use the HP device that is called a screwless mount, but drilled the back hole out and put the screw into the bracket and it was securely mounted. Now for the problem with the wiring. It comes with a old style adapter that fits the old 4 pin HD power plug. The new computer only has 15 pin connectors. So I cut and spliced the wires placing the adapter that came with the unit on the end of the power plug. Now the LED';s for power and activity will work as designed. Placed the SATA wiring on the unit and mounted the new 1 TB Backup drive into the tray. Even though it is behind the front panel it is really easy to pop of the front and put in a new HD SATA drive. I have several for backup, movies, music and pictures. This KungWin KF-1000 is fantastic for my purpose. I plan on putting at least one in all of my computers (4) This is an extremely well made unit and is smooth when mounting a SATA HD. If you are a computer NUT like me, this is a must have item. And the price is fantastic considering the quality. I love this unit and am headed back to order several more for my other computers. You cannot go wrong with this unit. Well, at least most people will be able to utilize it.GET SEVERAL TODAY - THEYRE GREAT

First shipment was defective, replacement perfect.
Three years ago I purchased this version Sold by Platinum Micro, Inc. on Amazon:KingWin KF-1000-BK Single bay Internal SATA Tray - Less Hot Swap Rack Key LockI am very content with all aspects of this product. The model that I'm reviewing in this post is the same manufacturer and model as described in both products descriptions, but seems to be a cheaper version. The feel of the device seems more fragile and flimsier. Form factor specifications by appearance seems to be good. Mounting screw holes did not align properly. Since the mounting bracket was made of a flimsier material in comparison I was able to force the alignment of the screw holes. Because of this action the front panel now rests crooked. The closing of the drive door is little forceful and feels flimsy compared to my previous purchase. The door when latching shut feels poor. As for the electronics it is functioning as expected so far.Found that one of the arms cut from the main chassis that connects to the mounting rail is not the same length as the other three arms. Suspect that this is causing the misaligned screw holes and a tilted front panel. Will return for a replacement, but suspect that this is a blanket defect for this product. Will update later when replacement arrives. Will give this product two stars for now until replacement arrives.UPDATE: Received replacement within two days of return request. All four arms supporting the bracket are of the same length. Mounting screw holes aligned properly with bay chassis. Front panel aligned properly. Electronics working properly. Product feels a little sturdier than previous defective unit (i'm not sure why there is a difference). Bumped up the star rating from a two to a four. If I get a few or more years use out of this will give it five stars.
