Lyman2800382 Mag 25 Digital Furnace

After3 years of trying to keep up with the ammo demands of youth shooting team using a lee furnace I decided to switch over to Lyman. I had been producing about 750 bullets and hour with a 4 cavity lyman mold. I really wasn't expecting to get much of an increase in production by just switching the furnace but jumped up to around 1200 an hour That alone made it worth the money.The digital temperature control works great. Putting a 3 pound lead ingot into the pot I see the temp dip 4 or 5 degrees but never get the pot to freeze up like I did with the lee. I guess the larger capacity of the pot helps with the freeze up also. The pot comes up to temp quickly usually around 15 minute.I haven't tried a lee mold yet but the mold guide works good. I put a little Lyman's super molly lube on the tracks and that helped galling with the iron mold sliding on the aluminum.

This Melting Pot is feature-rich and very durable. I highly recommend it to anybody making their own fishing sinkers or reloading. This pot is second to none. It is more expensive than an RCBS pot but the extra money is well worth it.

Very unhappy with this product! The first one I ordered came in damaged, with a malfunctioning digital temperature control system. So, I called Lyman and they suggested I contact Amazon.com. Amazon.com was great! They sent me a replacement over night. Problem, the replacement was not damaged, but the digital temperature control feature is again malfunctioning! So, I am shooting for a 3rd one and PRAYING it works! Purchasing the Lyman Mag 25 Furnace, is a gamble!UPDATE: After having turned the unit off/unplugging it and then giving it another try the following day, the product worked as it should, therefore I will change the 1 star rating to a 4-star.

Poor quality control. I had to repair some items before using. Some of the screws were not properly tightened.

And I did until I opened the box. First the handle was made backwards at the factory. This is not user serviceable. I decided to print a return label at that point. Being I had it in my possession why not see how it performs!!I installed the NEO upgrade mold plate and the pid fired up and it worked pretty darn good. I turned it off after a coupe hours use. Hmm, I was thinking about keeping it. Decided to turn it on again and make up my mind for sure. As bad luck would have it, the pid turned on, but the pot would not heat up. I tried the trick of plugging and unplugging many many times. The pid just died on the heating element. This was on the same day I received it. This smelter is almost 4 times more expensive then the Lee 4-20 pot.I had ordered another Lyman mag 25 to give them a fair shot. However, with all this Covid-19 nightmare I ended up cancelling being it was going to take about a month to get to me.Now I see the Lyman is selling for over $350 instead of the $289 I paid. Really?!When things calm down I will order all the parts from Amazon and build my own pid for my lee. No its not the same quality as the Lyman. But at least it melts lead. Perhaps I will give them another try, but not with the current price manipulation.

I've cast more than 40,000 bullets with this pot and am very pleased. The temp control has worked exactly as advertised. The mold guide is the only drawback, and I ditched it early in favor of the one Noe offers.

Melts the metal just fine, holds the temperature. However, the mold guide is too narrow to accept the Lee 6 cavity molds. I talked to Lyman customer service their response was "yes we know, but no correction is available". It also arrived with a bent limit screw, it took a couple emails and a couple phone calls to get a new one. If you want to use this with Lee 6 cavity molds be advised you will have to make a new, or modify the mold guide for it to work properly.

I want to begin by saying I’m new to casting and I’m very happy I skipped starting out with a Lee pot like a lot of casters and went ahead and spent the money to start out with what has to be one of the best furnaces out there. I have read some of the reviews complaining about the guide track not accepting certain branded molds and though it is true the Lyman molds seem to work best I made a small customization to the thin metal plate the guide rides on and opened up more room for my cheaper Lee molds!! If you want a upgrade to a pot with digital temperature than this is the one to buy!!

Excellent product and build quality ... my two modifications have been the addition of an on/off power switch (instead of using PID Controller) and an additional after market mold tray to accommodate my non conventual molds. Can recommend this unit over other make/models.

I like the temperature control system, it holds temps as advertised. The mold holder works OK but I find it slows casting times down, so I prefer to fill the molds without using it as it speeds up the process with little spillage from overfilling. With practice you don't overfill at all. I do wish it had a separate ON/OFF switch instead of unplugging it to kill the power. The mold warming tray is a good feature. Overall the Mag 25 heats up fast, controls temps well and produces consistent castings every time when up to casting temp. Much better system than some of the older styles without digital controls. Looking forward to many year of service from this product.

Smelter works very well, PID controller is a real benefit to temp control and quality of casting. Only downfall is the mould guide is set up for Lyman casting mounds, had to modify to use Lee, RCBS and Saecco mounds. Didn’t get a user manual in the box, downloaded it from mfg website.
