If you want to be an author, you'll like the extensive foot notes.
This is a book I wish I had read as a kid but never heard of until my fifties. But even with a background I geography,I thought this edition was just TOO much information.I don't know f you will feel the same way,but the joy of reading it was dimmed by too many foot notes, too many stories about O'Dell himself. It is written in Karana's voice. The fact that she was alone for so long is forgotten after some point --to whom is she telling her story? There us much background explanation. The actual story on my kindle stats at 41 percent ! So if you buy this edition for your I d,be aware. I would have originally given it three stars for overkill, but, shucks,my curiosity to read more about the real Channel Islands of California is piqued!

Lots of extra info for adult readers!
If you enjoyed this book as a kid, OR are interested in reading it for the first time as an adult, OR are simply interested in the history of islands off the coast of Southern California, this is the book for you. This version contains lots of annotations on the original text, plus a ton of info relating to the true story of the lone woman and archeology of the island.
