The Dragon Factory Review
Another great Joe Ledger book. And now I am understanding the books more. They are not all about Zombies. They each have different plots and different casts of villains. This one has a few running stories in it, and at first there seemed to be a lot of characters to get used to, but once I got going it was easy to decipher between each cast of characters and the stories. The premise behind this one is so outrageous yet still so realistic. It still has the running plot of terrorists, and many of them that Joe and his team needs to stop. It is so action packed and adrenalin based, you can't help but turn the pages.I of course love Joe Ledger's character, he is strong, witty, and relentless. We also get a little more story on Joe as well and just makes me love him all the more. Along with him I also love Bunny and Top as well. I feel like I connected with them both so much more in this one, and I wanted nothing to happen to either of them. The whole cast of characters are so realistic and believable. Another of my favorite characters is Grace. I love the love affair between her and Joe. Maberry created it so realistically. I feel they have a special connection. The action is the book is really non stop. And I was pulled right smack in the middle of all of it. And I loved every minute of it. Maberry knows how to get the blood pumping that is for sure, from page one to the last page of the book. There really was not anything I did not like about this book, only that it ended. I look forward to the next installment and the next exciting tale I get to jump into.

Not a Fire-Breather, but an Adequate Ledger Follow-Up
I've made no secret of the fact that I'm a Maberry fan, and this book did little to darken my opinion, although I will put it on the lower shelf of his works. While not as captivating as Patient Zero, The Dragon Factory continues the gluteus-thumping saga of DMS superagent Joe Ledger. It's not a bio-engineered zombie apocalypse this time around, but rather a bio-engineered pathogen apocalypse. Yep, the formula is the same, but the rules are different and the protagonists even more soulless. This novel tiptoes precariously near the edges of science fiction and fantasy rather unlike the horror bent of Ledger's previous outing. Nonetheless, it's a quick, lively read with trademark chapter cliffhangers and memorable baddies. Maberry seemed to be playing fast and loose with this storyline, and I was convinced that he was making it up as he went along. Most of it worked (berserkers, 82, Church). Some of it didn't (unicorn, 4000 bullets missing Ledger). The fight scenes were a tad repetitive and cliched, but I was still engrossed in what happened to Ledger and his team. There were a lot of loose ends that needed tied up and they were addressed in that lazy way I hate, with a few brief paragraphs at the end of the book. Still, I had fun and enjoyed myself, and I look forward to Ledger's next adventure. I didn't have to burrow in and tough anything out. I coasted along to the finish. That's good enough for me. I'll put this one at 3 ½ stars.Jan 2013 update: Stand by my review with the exception of being a Maberry fan. I read snarky, juvenile, embarrassing posts by Maberry right here on Amazon belittling reviewers opinions of his work. That someone with his (now lack of) credibility and stature would troll reviews and attack people who put money in his pocket is inexcusable. I deleted his books from my wish list and will not buy his work again. As an author, your readership is the only thing that enables you to do what you do. To attack them is foolish and ultimately detrimental to your bottom line. A far more appropriate response would have been to say, "Thank you for posting. I'm very sorry you didn't like this book. I hope you will try one of my other works. Cheers. JM." That I could have respected. Being a jerk to your fan base, I cannot. I'm done with you sir.

Read the trilogy, then make your decision on the books.
I ordered all 3 of the Joe Ledger novels, and after having read the series I have to say I REALLY enjoyed the writing. One I started reading them I couldn't put them down. The way the stories are written and interwoven truly make it hard to cast a reasonable rating, without reading all of them. In my mind anyway. While The Dragon Factory was the least "binding" of the books, it's still a damn good book. I still give it a 5 star rating, even if it is somewhat lacking compared to the first and third books. It's not any one thing I can point out, but some what of alack of character development with all but the Joe and Grace is mostly likely what it was. Then again, this same drawback also makes Mr. Church/Deacon/all the other names they have for him (most unspoken) that much more intriguing. While The Dragon Factory didn't draw me in quite the way that Patient Zero did, it definitely adds to the overall quality and fullness of the trilogy.Even if you buy it used or in some e-reader format, if you like fiction that is just close enough to this side of reality, then you will enjoy this series. The attention to real world detail in a work of fiction is astounding, and just adds to the reality of this all being possible.

One of those rare sequels that, if anything, are better than the first
I really enjoyed this book - well written, researched, and characterised it goes well beyond the usually fairly shallow military sci-fi genre and into territory that is rapidly ensuring Jonathan Maberry is one of my new favourite authors. You definitely need to read the first book to get this one, but just trust me and buy both at once - you won't be disappointed

A fight against evil
I came for the zombie book and thought I’d give this a go. Now I’m addicted. The author brings intelligence and humour to tackle the darkest of subjects, and iit can’t get any darker and evil than this. And then there’s the action, and some more action..... lots of action!

Good writing - silly premise - excellent book
This is the second in a series by Jonathan Mayberry, the first being Patient Zero. They're daft, and over the top, but you'd have to throw in 'gritty', and 'gripping'.I've read books that somehow miss the point, and don't quite cut it, but Mayberry's writing is right on the nose. His conspiracy theories are so over the top as to be - well, they SHOULD be implausible. It's a tribute to his writing style that the books work very, very well.OK. That's about it.Pretty clear I liked this book. But I'd recommend a new reader to Patient Zero first.
