Geratherm Classic Analog Fever Thermometer Without Mercury, Lifetime Precision, Made in Germany

I'm fed up with buying thermometers that I need at the time, then I don't use them for a few years and I need new batteries which are tiny and difficult to fit. Now it's about £30 for a thermometer, I believe they take normal batteries but from the reviews they aren't always accurate. I wanted a no frills, no battery, old fashioned simple to use thermometer. And now I've got it. Ace. Tried it and it works, reading is what I would expect. From the product reviews I knew I had to shake down the thermometer, and you do have to give it a bit of welly but it is quite simple. Very pleased.

I wanted a basic old-style thermometer. However, unlike those with mercury that shake down very easily, this is impossible to lower, so it's useless. All I managed to do was hurt my wrist. I read the instructions, watched a demonstration on YouTube, but nothing worked. I left it too late to return.

We have had mixed experiences using the new electronic thermometers so we bought this traditional glass one to use. It appears well made but we had initial reading errors. This was down to a need to shake the thermometer quite vigorously in order to get the reading to below 37 as it was well above this on arrival from Amazon. It did state the need to do this in the instructions and I guess we have seen nurses doing this in the very distant past. So its okay but probably not as easy to use as expected.

After being feverish recently and finding that neither of the two existing digital thermometers in the house were working even after a change of battery, (I mean what's the ------- point!!), I decided to go 'vintage' with this old style, analogue thermometer, that can hopefully sit in the cupboard for a year or three, and still work when actually needed without batteries! Like other reviewers I found that it seemed to read about a degree C. low, so I checked it out by putting it in a glass of water at @40C, alongside a brewing thermometer that I know to be fairly reliable, though with a wider range. Good result, -both thermometers read roughly the same, and the 'classic' thermometer was actually quite fast, reaching maximum temperature in considerably less than a minute. I guess my 'normal' temperature must be slightly low. Needs a bit of shaking to get the liquid back down, but the trick seems to be to let the thermometer cool for a minute or two before trying so there's space! The holder does help, making accidentally letting go less likely. On the evidence so far, I can thoroughly recommend.

Ich habe mir dieses Thermometer geholt, weil alle Thermometer in meinem Haushalt entweder kaputt waren, weil es sich um Billigprodukte handelte, oder ihre Batterie leer war. Da man im Idealfall nur selten ein Thermometer nutzen muss, vergisst man leicht, die Batterie zu wechseln - es fällt einem erst beim nächsten Infekt auf, und da hat man keine Lust/Energie sich im Laden eine neue Batterie zu besorgen. Bei einem analogen Thermometer hat man ein Gerät, das nicht auf Batterien angewiesen ist und daher 1) jederzeit einsatzbereit ist, 2) unanfällig für technische Defekte ist, 3) keine Folgekosten mit sich bringt und 4) nachhaltig ist. Das Thermometer wirkt robust, es ist gut verarbeitet und leicht zu reinigen. Da ich bisher nur digitale Thermometer kannte, ist es für mich noch etwas ungewohnt, ein Thermometer vor Benutzung zu schütteln, aber man gewöhnt sich schnell daran. Die Messdauer ist bei einem analogen Thermometer etwas länger als bei einem digitalen (min. 4 Minuten), aber die Messung ist genauso genau. Die Lieferung erfolgte sehr schnell (1-2 Tage) und kostenlos. Hergestellt wird das Thermometer in Deutschland, wodurch der Transportweg entsprechend kürzer - und umweltfreundlicher - ist. Insgesamt bin ich sehr zufrieden mit diesem Einkauf und vergebe 5 Sterne. :)

Fiable. Tuve mis dudas cuando lo compre por algunos comentarios que me habia leido por aqui, pero un buen termometro. Exactamente igual que los de mi infancia. Antes de ponertelo lo miras para asegurarte de que esta bajado, te lo pones, lo dejas 3-5 minutos para darle tiempo que dilate y suba correctamente hasta tu temperatura, lo miras girandolo ligeramente para que la luz incida de tal manera que puedas ver cuanto ha subido lo plateado sobre el azul, y luego lo sacudes desde el codo (como si tuvieras la mano mojada y te sacudieras vigorosamente las gotas) para volver a bajarlo, lo limpias si hace falta, y lo guardas. A diferencia de uno electrónico, nunca te fallara, ni se quedara sin bateria. Y para romperlo, habra que empeñarse bastante.

This is stuck at 42C and won't move. I shook it, placed it in a glass of cold water, but nothing moves it. It arrived that way, so I haven't been able to use it even once! I contacted the company and immediately they offered a refund. Their customer service is great!

I bought this thermometer hoping that it will be better, than any electronic. Turns out, it shows my temperature 0.5 degree lower, than it actually is, even after 10 minutes of measuring.
