The I Ching Gift Set

I bought this gift set instead of the more expensive workbook gift set because I couldn't justify spending more money for the workbook gift set (just to get incense, an incense holder, a workbook, and a cloth).I found this book easy to read, use, and understand. And yes, there is a typo on page 6 referred to in an earlier review ("ruins" instead of "runes"), but not nearly as many mistakes as I found in Stephen Karcher's I Ching kit (which is also very good, provided you correct the mistakes in it before you use it).Also, when calculating each of the three numbers that are used to determine each of the 6 lines of the hexagram, this book uses the only method I've really found -- based on stalk "remainders" after making groups of 4 -- compared to Karcher, whose instructions seem to disregard the actual number of remainder stalks, instead counting the groups of 4. Yes, Karcher's method seems a bit simpler, but I need to do more research before relying on it to attempt to determine if the number for the line would come out the same regardless of which method is used (relying on number of remainder stalks, or number of groups of four).It's nice to have the genuine yarrow stalks from China included with the set, although I don't see any problem with buying a bag of a hundred 10-inch bamboo skewers from the supermarket for a couple of bucks. The stalks included in Karcher's I Ching kit actually seem like bamboo, not yarrow (which may be why the word "yarrow" is in quotes on the box?).To sum up. I recommend this item by Wu Wei. I appreciate This set and found the sticks lovely.

I wish I had bought a set with a wooden storage box but the cardboard is fairly sturdy.

Luckily, I am in a school where students have experience using sticks or 50 of anything to get a reading. Once learned, however, it is a very nice way to do it. Some of the Chinese students have commented on how beautiful the sticks are because they are natural. Nice box and book too.

EXCELLENT book & fine yarrow sticks. Great set!

The yarrow stalks are said to be a better tool to use the I-Ching than the coins; that was the main reason for buying this set. But I must admit that the book is very well written and helpful for beginners like myself. The instructions for how to use the sticks might seem a bit complicated to understand at first, but they are not as hard to understand as other reviewers expressed.

Nice kit, not the standard boring one. It has pretty unique sticks, good quality printing, its definitly a good gift or something to have at home.

The set was nicely boxed and the book and yarrow sticks were as advertised. I am very pleased with this purchase.

After comparing three editions of the I Ching, I found this one by Wu Wey to be the most clear and useful. I also enjoy that it comes with a set of 50 yarrow stalks. I had been using the coin method before, but consulting the I Ching with the yarrow stalks surely has its advantages. Having tried it for the first time today, it really made me slow down and contemplate my question with deeper introspection.

I was searching a lot about the right book on I ching... I am european and i guess authentic translations of i ching dont go well with my mental structure. So i was searching for a simpler but not 'new age coin future fortune teller' version, since today there are so many. Wu Wei, the author of this edition, his biography and words of introduction to i ching have immediately blown my mind, so i didnt need to check anything else. For me, since i am also an anthropologist, it is authentic and 'unspoiled' enough. I have read some reviews and they all give this 5* - i agree.Wu Wei, thank you! Lets make a better world with better humans with I ching ✨
