Could this really be...?
One of the best writers in The Black Library. You find yourself actually feeling for Curze, and seeing The Lion in a different, darker light.Well done, Gav. Well done.

Excellent
I did like this one. It has some great interest and interaction with the primaries. The lion and Konrad is the high light of the book. Very well done.

This book has it all and then some!
The Dark Angels have always fascinated me. They're everything you should love in a legion. Darkness, mystery and always questioning what's going to happen next keeps me interested time and time again. 10 out of 10 would recommend to a friend.

Secret truths revealed!
This novel set during the Horus Heresy provides a great deal of insight into the tragic flaws of the Primarchs, particularly the Lion El'Johnson. Also revealed is the hidden history of the Dark Angels and the source of their secret shame.

Sanguinius, the aloof Emperor of Imperium Secondus...
The isight into Guilliman's administration of the 500 World's is very interesting. Coupled with the Imperium Secondus' Triumvirate having to make hard choices as to how to bring Cruze to justice this is more political intrigue than bolter porn.

My Money is on Zahariael
So many twist and turns, it was crazy. Astelan is my dude forever. 100%. Took me for a loop, don't want to reveal any spoilers. It was good. On to the next one.

Above average
This book was above average. It promised a lot what with the whole fracturing of Imperium Secundus but it did not deliver much. Gav has made some solid Horus Heresy material with the Raven Guard and the Dark Angels but this one was mostly a miss. Beware of spoilers below.Pros- The buildup to the latest Lion and Curze duel. This anticipation helped me plough through the fillers of the book and the duel itself was great even though the resolution was kind of predicable knowing the Lion's sense of honour and how he would not stoop to Curze's level. Also, many people may or may not know Curze's final fate.- The conspiracies on Caliban with Luther and co. was very intriguing. This arc also reveals once and for all the true identity of Cypher in the current 40k timeline: it's a twist to be sure but a welcome one.Cons- The Lion acted quite out of character for most of the book with too many childish tantrums and rash decisions.- Sanginuis was way too passive even though he is the "Emperor" of Imperium Secundus.- Very slow pacing for at least the first half of the novel. In short, the book was still entertaining but only here and there.

At last...
Well, it is sad to tell it but the dark angels did have two of the worst book of the Horus Heresy.Gav Thorpe is sometimes critized but at least in this novel, did he make a fine job to put back the first legion of the Spaces Marines on the right track. A must read...Les deux premiers livres sur les Dark Angels étaient parmi les pires de l'Heresie d'Horus. Gav Thorpe réussit à remettre l'histoire de cette légion, la première, sur le bon chemin.A lire...

One of the better books
An excellent book. Explaining what is happening on Caliban (heading toward civil war..?) while El'Johnson is away establishing a new Imperium. A good book, with the chapters jumping between the two storylines. I enjoyed it.

Secondo impero

Twists and turns.
One of the few books I have stayed up very late to read to the finish. Although not the best story in the world I wanted to see what direction the author took the dark angles. I was not disappointed. Not your usual Horus Heresy book this is more of a slow burner and tells the tale of how the Dark Angels fair on Caliban without their primarch. The second storyline is what their primarch is up to. Basically hunting the night haunter. The story progresses the storyline of the Horus Heresy and shows up how insecure the primarchs can be when they are not thumping someone.
