British Berkefeld 12L Ultra Sterasyl Gravity Water Filter System

I purchased the British Berkefeld Gravity Water Filter System late last year due to growing concerns about our tap water, which had started to taste strange, was often fizzy, and occasionally appeared cloudy. The system arrived promptly, and I was immediately impressed by the meticulous packaging. Every component, including the sleek 8.5L stainless steel unit and the two Doulton Ceramic Ultra Sterasyl Cartridges, was well-protected, ensuring they arrived in perfect condition. The system itself is not only stylish but also robust and durable. Setting it up was straightforward thanks to the clear instructions provided. As a gravity-based system, it’s incredibly easy to use – you simply pour tap water into the upper chamber and let gravity handle the filtration process. The filters are exceptional, efficiently removing 99.99% of common contaminants such as PFAS, bacteria, chlorine, cysts, microplastics, heavy metals, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. Doulton also offers filters designed to remove fluoride, but since Essex and Suffolk water do not currently add fluoride to their water treatment in my area, there’s no need for those yet. However, I’ll definitely purchase them if the situation changes. Given the deteriorating state of our water infrastructure and the frequent reports of contaminants entering the water system, it’s essential to take measures to ensure the safety of our drinking water. As someone who drinks about 3-5 litres of water throughout the day, I don't want to take any chances with my health or my family's. The difference in taste and clarity between tap water and filtered water is truly remarkable. Our tap water used to have a sweet taste and was sometimes murky. Now, we enjoy crystal clear, great-tasting water without any unpleasant aftertaste. The filters offer excellent value for money, especially considering they only need to be changed every six months. Cleaning them with a brush or scotch pad can also extend their lifespan. The 8.5L capacity is perfect for my family’s daily needs, reducing the frequency of refills. The system handles a large volume of water with ease, making it ideal for both drinking and cooking purposes. For the 8.5L size, I recommend running at least 3 full containers' worth of water through the filters initially to remove any ceramic residue, which can make the water appear slightly milky. The only aspect of this product that bothered me was the spigot. It comes with a black plastic spigot that feels quite weak and looks out of place on an otherwise nearly all-stainless steel unit. For the price I paid, I would have expected a stainless steel spigot. I assume the plastic is BPA-free since the system is designed to filter out contaminants, including microplastics, but this isn't mentioned anywhere. Not wanting to take any chances, I decided to replace it with a stainless steel spigot, which you can purchase relatively cheaply on here. Additionally, the spigot is positioned very close to the base of the bottom container, so the system needs to be placed on the edge of a countertop or elevated on a stand to fit a glass or bottle underneath it. I opted for a base stand, which is also available on here. Though it isn't cheap, it does a fantastic job and looks great, as seen in my photos. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase. The British Berkefeld Gravity Water Filter System is a fantastic product. It provides clean, great-tasting water, is easy to use, and represents excellent value for money. The initial investment is offset by the long-lasting filters and the significant improvement in water quality. The ceramic filters are durable and easy to clean, which adds to the overall convenience and cost-effectiveness of the system. I just bought the 6L unit, the stand, a stainless steel tap and a 4 pack of the flouride filters. £325 all in. I did a double flush, let it sit over night, then did a third flush. I now have really excellent, clean, tasty water for drinking and cooking...on tap. Use the original ufo shaped washer kit, and a spanner, to firmly attach your chosen tap, or it will leak! It's an expensive initial outlay for sure, however, by the end of the first year it will pay for itself. After that it only costs £130 a year, for 4 flouride filters. It looks fine sitting beside my kitchen sink. It doesn't take up too much space either. Over all, I think it is a wise investment. Clean, flouride free, tasty water, that costs much less than £1 a day...for all the water you'll ever need. And no more mountains of plastic bottles to dispose of either.

This may just be the best thing I ever bought on Amazon. Only when you taste water that has been filtered (properly) do you realise what has been going on with it. And it is NOT good. The water this produces is crystal clear, and delicious. All the toxic and metallic edge is gone. What is left is so beautiful tasting, it's a revelation. I have upgraded to the UltraFluoride candles, which are even better than those the unit ships with. Those are already excellent. For the ultimate refreshing water hit, I add a pinch of sea salt to a 1 litre glass carafe, which I agitate a bit, then chill in the fridge; then I run that through a Sodastream. That is just an amazing taste. I have never had known commercial fizzy spring water taste so good! The Berkefeld is solidly made, looks the business, and is an extremely welcome addition in my kitchen. I absolutely love it - if you are hesitating whether or not to get one of these, don't. This is a straight 10 out of 10. Looking forward to using it on hot days this summer!

Amazing product,good size and nice crispy fresh water.

Only set up a few days ago and I am so far very impressed. The water actually tastes really good, fresh and doesn't leave any after taste like tap water and even better than my previous water filter also some bottled water🤗 There's no leaks, very durable and sturdy stainless steel material containers look rather good too. Does take a long time to flow through the filters but I soon realised that this means the filters are indeed doing their thing. Previous water filter system only took minutes this takes a few hours to complete but I have been filling up before bed and top up a litre or 2 throughout the day. The set up is rather expensive but this outweighs the fact it will shall probably last a very long time. The filters are also rather expensive but I'm hopeful in time they shall be a bit cheaper. My only moan is that handles would be most beneficial as it's a bit awkward to lift when on the filter system is on its stand so for now in looking for a silicone band to aid gripping So far I am very impressed and would highly recommend

Brilliant , beautifully clean drinking water

Works very well. Takes several hours for the filters to charge up as they need time to fully soak up and start filtering. Nope be disheartened if after assembling no water is filtering. It will but takes hours to work its way through initially. Then once it does it drips away nicely. Just one word of warning: Do not confuse 6 litre advertisement as meaning it can filter 6 litres each time. It physically can't as the top chamber with the filters can ONLY hold 4.5 litres, whereas the lower chamber of filtered water holds more. It's a slight word sleight of hand by Berkefeld in their advertisement. I imagine it'll be the same for their larger models as well so be advised. Very happy with purchase, but now that I have seen with my own eyes how these systems work, I probably could have made my own larger water filter for much less money by just using their filters and tap, and buying simple stainless steel 304 containers off eBay and drilling required holes in.

Easy to install Fresh water taste is great!!

Makkelijk te installeren, loopt de eerste dag iets minder goed door omdat het systeem zich moet vullen, maar daarna binnen het uur gefilterd water! Heel blij mee.

Hace poco que lo usamos y parece que funciona. El sabor del agua es muy bueno. Iria aun mejor si existiera la manera de comprovar el agua limpia que queda en el depósito.
