Best pocket or peekaboo door lock around
The media could not be loaded. This lock is perfect for pocket doors. The main downside you might find with this is that the lock is on the opposite side of the door from the “handle” and so some people who are not familiar with these locks might not know where to look for it initially, or might not notice there is a lock at all. See my video for how this lock works. We put ours on a half-bath door because we have toddlers who kept walking in on guests using the restroom. It took my husband about 30 minutes to install this. The time was mostly spent just drilling out the spot (he used a dremel) on our solid wood door. Installing the lock itself was very quick and simple. See my photos for how it looks. Once installed, this is a very easy lock to use. My 3 year old immediately found it and started using it the next day. The other downside with these locks is that if someone gets locked inside and for some reason cannot unlock the door, there is no key or other way to unlock the lock from the outside. Overall the finish, quality, and ease of use make this a great product for our house. We will probably be buying more of these in the future. And the price on Amazon is stellar.Update: Another reader pointed out to me the manufacturer has a step where you can drill a hole on the other side if the door to have “pinhole” access to the lock if the door is locked and no one can open it from the inside. This would allow you to unlock from the outside in an emergency. I’m not sure we’ll do this as we would have to drill another hole in our solid wood door, but if we try it I’ll update this again.

Great Pocket Door Lock
I prefer this lock over for pocket/sliding doors over the clumsy the close side "lock" as 1) it's easier and more secure and 2) you don't have to drill into the close-side trim. The photo shows:- comparison of the ORB finish to a matte black finish- toggle depression installs at the top (my contractor initially installed it upside down and you could see the spring...)- does not show door stop piece (my contractor installed it without realizing it had the stop plate)

Works as described, but oily
This is leaving a mess everywhere. Each time we use it, it leaves a black oily residue on our hands.

The best solution for a 1 3/8 wide pocket door.
This lock works great and is much better than the Deltana brand. I could not find a flush mount door pull with a locking mechanism that would fit into a 1 3/8 door even though the one I bought said that it would. It was 1/4 inch too wide. This lock clicks into both positions and is very easy to operate.

Best sliding door lock we could find & left wanting for better quality
In summary:This is a clean elegant solution to adding a lock to an existing sliding door, and is the best we could find in searching the internet. It is however cheaper than we would like in term of materials and finish. Installation requires a chisel, hammer and screwdriver, and wasn't difficult to install. The screws are brittle and the screw head breaks (shears) off under torque from power tools. In detail:We spend a lot of time researching for a good sliding door lock to keep the kids out when working from home during the COVID-19 shelter in place orders. This lock cleanly installed into the face of the door, and is discrete. Some reviewers complained the color is more black, than bronze, however in comparison to our quality door hardware made of oil rubbed bronze, it's lighter in color, but looks bronze; the color however is painted on. Screws, door lock, and strike plate are all of the same color. To install, a piece of paper was cut to match the size of the full lock, and using a finger nail an indent for the the boundary of the lock mechanism marked with a fingernail. The template was taped to the door in the correct location. We used tape to mark the recess depth of the lock on the chisel. The 20mm chisel we used not wide enough hence we had to cut around 22mm for the width of the lock. Once the hole was cut into the door, we taped the lock to the door, to confirm the door could still close properly before installing the screws. With the screws in place, we used the lock to mark where to install the strike plate onto the door frame. We placed the strike plate with the door open, hammered in the locking pin, and installed the screw. We expect that the paint may wear off, and if it does, we can repaint with a can of bronze metal spray paint. You can drill a hole through the backside of the door, to the top of the lock, so a pin, or toothpick can be used to unlock the door from the outside. The screws are brittle and the screw head breaks (shears) off under torque from power tools. Drilling a small pilot hole seems to reduce the pressure on the screw and mitigate the screw-head shearing off.

Small, cheap, simple, effective
Worked great as a latch/lock for a sliding door that opens onto old, sketchy basement stairs in my old farmhouse. I wanted to make it safer for when kids come over, and so I installed this about 5 feet off the ground, at an adult's eye level. So far so good - it's not meant to stop an intruder and could be defeated pretty easily, but it's perfect for this use and is quicker to lock/unlock than an antique key lock would be.
