The wires are very small gauge stranded copper. Is there over current protection inside this unit? It goes on a 15 amp circuit.

It is 220v, the higher the voltage the lower the current needed, therefore the amperage it uses and the size of wire. It is rated for 1500W. No problem for my 3/4hp pump, been working perfectly so far for months. I haven't found anything like this on the market and the mechanical ones went bad every year.
